Announcing the ‘Favorite Things’ Reader Challenge finalists

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens are terrific but what are your favorite things?  In the August/September issue of Quilting Arts, we challenged readers to interpret their own favorite thing(s) in a 9″ x 12″ art quilt.  Here are the finalists:

Els Vereycken, “Valentina”

Pam Hough, “Bubble Play”

Vivian Zepf, “Cata-Leap”

Siri Hauge Opdal, “Silk and Buttons”

Albert Feldman, “Roman Falls”

Jennifer Carson, “Autumn Wishes”

Jenny Johnston, “Kookaburra Sits …”

Carol Kolf, “Sew Busy” and “Ricky”

Congratulations to the finalists and thank you to all participants!  All finalists’ quilts will be published, either on our website or in the February /March 2015 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.

Next steps for finalists:

  • Please ship your artwork to us; it must be in our offices by Oct. 24, 2014. Include a shipping and handling fee of $15 (U.S. and Canada) or $25 (all other international). This fee, which must be paid in U.S. dollars, covers the shipping costs, packing materials, and handling for the return of your entry. Only cash, checks, or money orders can be accepted. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Interweave. Include your return address inside the package.
  • Be sure your quilt is labeled on the reverse with your name, email address, and title of the quilt. Also on the reverse, label the top of the quilt (a temporary label is sufficient) so we orient it properly.
  • If you did not do so in your original submission, please include a statement (around 50 words) about your quilt–the “story” of it, not the materials used (unless they are intertwined). This can be emailed to (Subject: Favorite Things statement) or sent in the package.
  • The entire piece and all of its packaging must weigh less than 3 lbs. and fit inside a standard shipping/mailing box or padded envelope for return shipment.

Finalists should mail their entries to:

Quilting Arts Magazine/Interweave

Sudbury, MA 01776

Note: By submitting your reader challenge entry, you are authorizing F&W Media, Inc. to publish your project in upcoming publications and promotional materials, on our websites and in our other e-media, as well as to possibly display it at shows. We reserve the right to keep and display your “Favorite Things” quilt until the week of Jan. 5, 2015.
