Announcing the 'Opposites Attract' finalists!

In the April/May issue of Quilting Arts, we challenged readers with the theme "Opposites Attract" and asked them to incorporate colors opposite one another on the color wheel.  Readers could use a 9" diameter circular format or a 9" square.  Many readers used the theme as their subject matter as well. Here are the finalists–congratulations to them and thank you to all participants!

Indigo Kennedy, "Nautilus"
Susan Selby, "A Whirlwind of Compliments"
Evans Fletcher, "A Study of Opposites"
Gudrun Kiel-Bullock, "The Sun and Moon"
Thelma Roach, "California Beach Sunset"
Cynthia Clark, "Sunset at Seaside"
Melanie Johnston, "Giraffe Love"
Deborah Runnels, "It's Like Love"
Robert Hartley, "Like Dogs & Cats"
Lana Lefroy, "Ebb Flow, Wax Wane"
Pam Darrow, Untitled

All finalists' quilts will be published, either on our website or in the October/November 2014 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.

Next steps for finalists:

  • Please ship your artwork to us; it must be in our offices no later than June 27, 2014. Include a shipping and handling fee of $15 (U.S. and Canada) or $25 (all other international). This fee, which must be paid in U.S. dollars, covers the shipping costs, packing materials, and handling for the return of your entry. Only cash, checks, or money orders can be accepted. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Interweave.
  • Be sure your quilt is labeled on the reverse with your name, email address, and title of the quilt. Also on the reverse, label the top of the quilt (a temporary label is sufficient) so we orient it properly. Include your return address inside the package.
  • If you did not do so in your original submission, please include a statement (around 50 words) about your quilt–the "story" of it, not the materials used (unless they are intertwined).
  • The entire piece and all of its packaging must weigh less than 3 lbs. and fit inside a standard shipping/mailing box or padded envelope for return shipment.

Finalists should mail their entries to:

Quilting Arts Magazine/Interweave
Attn: ‘Opposites Attract' Reader Challenge

Sudbury, MA 01776

Note: By submitting your reader challenge entry, you are authorizing F&W Media, Inc. to publish your project in upcoming publications and promotional materials, on our websites and in our other e-media, as well as to possibly display it at shows. F&W Media, Inc. will not be held responsible for loss or damage due to circumstances beyond our control.

We reserve the right to keep and display your "Opposites Attract" quilt until the week of Nov. 10, 2014.
