Create Unique Impressions With These New Stamps

Isn't it funny how sometimes the simplest of art processes can be so satisfying? I mean, you know I love my Thermofax screen printing and I am a sucker for hand embroidery. Thread sketching fascinates me and I never get tired of dyeing. But when it comes to hands-down fun, I have to go with stamping. There's something about the instant gratification of making a mark on fabric with paint or ink that is just so rewarding.

One of the downsides to stamping, however, is image fatigue. The same motifs from commercially made stamps tend to pop up over and over. Carving your own stamps insures that they are unique to you, but even then, once I've used a motif a few times I'm itching to try something new. Found objects have brought new life to my stamping repertoire, but I can't always find exactly the pattern I'm looking for.

So you can imagine my joy when I discovered Moldable Foam Stamps from Clearsnap. They are ingenious! All you do is heat the foam with a heat gun and impress it with the object you want use to make a pattern. The stamp can now be used over and over again until you tire of it. Then just re-heat with the gun and create a new impression.

I'll show you how easy it is in this video demonstration:

Not only is this form of stamp making fun and economical, but it saves space, too. I'm sure I'll always want to carve stamps, experience the thrill of using a found object for a stamp, and even purchase a ready made stamp again. But these moldable foam stamps have opened up a whole new vista of spontaneous surface design for me.
