There's no doubt about it: quilting, the holidays, and great food go hand-in-hand! So, with our favorite culinary delights in mind, we asked the contributing artists from this year's issue of Quilting Arts Gifts to share a favorite family recipe along with their fiber art expertise.
For the photo shoot, everyone in the office made one of the delectable dishes. At lunchtime we plated, styled, and shot each one.
And then it was time to eat! I can definitely assure you we all had to hit the gym a little more than usual that week to burn off those yummy calories.
We enjoyed each of the culinary offerings, but Susan Brubaker Knapp's Chocolate Dream Pie looked and tasted especially festive, with its peppermint candy garnish.

So I thought I'd give you a sneak taste of Quilting Arts Gifts by offering up Susan's recipe, along with a peek at one of the projects she designed for the issue.
Chocolate Dream Pie

- (2) 4-oz. bars of Baker's sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup milk
- (1) 8-oz. bar of cream cheese
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- (2) 8-oz. containers of whipped topping
- 9" chocolate-wafer pie crust
- Crushed peppermint candy

1. Place the chocolate and half the milk in a saucepan, and melt it over low heat, stirring constantly.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, and the remaining milk. Add the melted chocolate mixture and beat.
3. Gently stir in 1 container of whipped topping. Spoon the filling into the prepared crust, spread, and freeze.
4. Before serving, let the pie stand for 30 minutes. Smooth the second container of whipped topping on top, and sprinkle it with the crushed peppermint candy.
