If you’re looking for some ideas for handmade quilted gifts, I want to remind you of three of my favorites. Two are make-in-day projects. One is a little more involved, but worth the time, I think.
|My mug rug (top) and
calendar tote by Susan Wasinger (above) both
make quick quilted gifts.
First is an easy-to-make Patchwork Mug Rug you can whip up in no time. Pair it with a pretty mug, a box of exotic tea, and some homemade cookies, and you’ve got a lovely handmade gift for someone special.
If you, and your gift recipient, enjoy vintage textiles, then this Calendar Patchwork Tote is the perfect project. You can use a calendar tea towel like Susan Wasinger, the designer, did, or piece new fabric with vintage, like I did. I finished this tote in an hour!
|This stitched cardinal will be
the bright spot in your gift recipient’s winter.
If you know about my fascination with birds, you know that no handmade gift list would be complete without a bird project. I have been capturing birds in fabric and free-motion machine embroidery for the past few years, and in this blog post I share the basic how-to. You can adapt the technique and fabric choice to suit your own needs. Then frame your wintry bird composition and wrap it up.
