Summer Fabric Giveaway for Your Quilt Art

What could be better than sea breezes and New England cottage gardens? Fabric with sea and floral motifs, of course! I have two rolls of Moda fabric, and I'm giving them away to two lucky commenters.

Summers in New England are pretty idyllic. With the ocean nearby, it's easy to enjoy the cooler breezes, seashells, and boating–not to mention fresh seafood and amazing ice cream!

And while nights can be muggy, the temperate climate creates the perfect setting for abundant flower gardens that bloom all summer long.

These two fabric lines capture summer in New England perfectly. 'Cuzco' by Kate Spain features summery florals and geometric patterns. 'Seascape' by Deb Strain comes in blues and greens with prints of nautical charts, shells, seahorses, and stripes.

To win one of the rolls, just leave a comment telling me what you most enjoy about summer. I'll draw and announce the winners Monday, July 30.

Good luck and happy commenting!

  1. living on a dairy farm, summer is all about planting and harvesting with a little time now and then to work in the gardens and put by for the coming winter.

  2. I just spent a fantastic vacation in Maine with my husband’s family in New Sweden, ME. IF I win this I’ll make sure to do something beautiful for my lovely mother-in-law. She gave me fat quarters and I made them into a tablerunner for her and I was so pleased that she had it right in the middle of her dining room table. I’d like to do that again for her with something that reflects her New England heritage, which is all very exotic to me since I am from Montana.

  3. I love the colors of the water. My goal is to live on either a lake or the ocean someday soon. With mountains nearby. Don’t want much, do I? πŸ˜‰

  4. My favorite thing about summer has to be the length of the day! I just LOVE that light and sunrise come early, with their colors, birdsong and fragrances of blooming gardens, trees and grass…And than the late sunsets and all the colors it brings – just so beautiful!!

  5. Oh my – this is so pretty – would love to add it to my collection. Spent some time driving from the east coast to the west – reminds me of the beautiful scenery along the way – how inspiring!

  6. Oh my favorite summer time enjoyment is heading to the county fair to see the grandson showing his pigs & cows. Then to walk thru the Hall of Flowers to see what they created for our enjoyment & last but not least to tour the craft hall & see all the quilts created by the talented folks in our area. Deciding what fair food to have is always fun as well.

  21. Living in Hawai’i it’s “summer time” most of the time – but fruit is still seasonal – MANGOES are a great part of summer in Hawai’i. The fabrics remind me wildflowers – they were a favorite part of my summers in Alaska. Thanks for the opportunity to relive some of those memories. : )

  22. I would love to be able to add these to my fabrics. I am a beach bum/lighthouse collector and am currently contemplating a nautical quilt for my room. This would give me some wonderful choices!

  25. Flowers, flowers, flowers! With the long and cold Minnesota winters, I look forward to the bursts of blooms from my flower gardens. I can spend hours creating flower gardens in a patchwork of colors.

  26. I am not loving much about our summer this year. There is widespread drought and we have had temps in the 100’s way too many days. I am thankful for air-conditioning which allows me to escape this debilitating weather and to enjoy being in my sewing room surrounded by beautiful fabric!!!

  27. i love to smell the cut grass and smell the air cooling down on an evening! We don’t get much of a summer here in the UK but when we do, i just love all the smells drifting in the air, including the smell of sun cream xxx hope you all enjoy your summers xxx

  28. I personally love the months of June & July so much more than all the rest … I’m a 10 month employee and get to do whatever I want in June and July. These past 2 months have been filled with fabric, thread and much much sewing!

  29. What I love most about summer is that I am lucky to enjoy it year round here in Hawaii. I sometimes miss the seasons but truthfully it’s awesome to wear shorts and tank tops year round even on rainy days. πŸ™‚ But if I had to pick for being on the mainland for their summer I would say the fruit–I love summer fruit!! πŸ™‚

  30. When I was growing up my grandparents had a cottage on a lake and there was nothing better than sleeping on the screened in porch waking up to the birds singing. It’s just great being on the water. There was this huge patch of pink sweet peas on the hillside that I used to love to pick and put in a vase in the cottage. Smelled great!

  31. I love the longer days, the smell of fresh cut grass, the water sprinklers watering the grass, the sound of laughter from the children playing outside later in the day, the colors of the sunrises and sunsets…..and from those colors in nature, the beautiful fabrics that come forth!!!

  32. Beautiful pieces of fabric! What I love most about summer is the looonnnngggg days. I start fading when the sun goes down, so during summer I get so much more awake time! Time to create, to sew, to read, to cook, to do anything!

  33. Normally summers in Iowa offer a welcome break from the long snowy winters. The fields are bright and green, and the warm days are tempered by cool nights. It’s been so hot and dry this summer, though, everything is withered and brown. These beautiful fabrics would bring some color and freshness back into my summer!

  34. I love the long days of sunshine and working outside in my flower and veggie gardens. The nights are for quilting and finishing projects just in time to enter them in quilt shows.

  36. The thing that I most enjoy about summer is my garden. Cherries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Apples, Pears and Plums grow in my garden as well as an abundance of flowers and a few select veggies – greens and tomatoes. Nothing is better than going out there in the morning and nibbling. Raspberries produce from July to November so that’s a lot of nibbling!

  37. Well this summer the think I enjoyed the most was that my 7 yr. old grand daughter spent all summer with us at the farm in Kansas. I love the fabrics we have been so darn hot for the last several weeks that when I look at the fabric it makes my mind think “Cool” weather. LOL Thanks for the chance to win.

  38. I love having my windows open all summer long, picnics, walking barefoot, blooming flowers and nectarines, watermelon, cherries and tomatoes grown on the vine.

  41. I love having more sun then anything but along with that comes more flowers, trees changing colors, kids out playing in water. So much fun comes along with sunshine. How can you not love it!

  42. Since I live in that part of the country that gets summer for six months of the year, the best thing is that I can enjoy the beauty of the season from my air conditioned studio.

  43. Summer where I live in New Zealand is about Christmas, the end of the school year, holidays, outdoor pre-Christmas markets, outdoor concerts at New Year, barbeques, long hours spent gardening…a busy time when the world looks brighter and happier.

  44. I really enjoy my garden in the summer. It’s so nice to be able to pick fresh veggies and enjoy the beautiful flowers. I also love a trip to the beach. Thanks for the giveaway.

  45. Locally grown, incredible watermelon and cantaloupe. Light when I leave for work AND when I come home. The hometown 4th of July Parade that features veterans I’ve known since I was very young, carrying the American flag – I cry every time. Road trips. Dreams of the next road trip. Watching the kids ride bikes up and down the road until bedtime. Cookouts. Snowcones. Too many crickets. Just enough cicada buzzing to induce sleepiness….

  46. I love summer for the long days, the camping trips, the campfires and s’mores, the walks right at sunset. I love the midnight thunderstorms that leave everything clean and fresh. I love having the windows open and listening to the birds sing. I just love summer.

  47. For me, summer means less time spent at work and more time spent on my sewing machine and in my garden! I could put that floral fabric to great use!

  48. Summers are great fun, because I run summer programming at the Scandinavia Public Library in Scandinavia, Wisconsin. I get to spend all summer turning kids onto some great books and coming up with great craft projects for everyone to do. We have a group of crafters who come in every week to knit, crochet, bead, quilt, etc. at the library, and they love passing on their skills to the newest generation. I even ran a mini-quilting course for our teens and adults a couple of years ago! Also, I get to bring my own kids in to work with me at least a couple of times per week so they can participate in the library programs. This is great because it means we get to see each other a lot more often, and they get to see what I do at work. They even help the littlest kids with their projects and shelve books for us too!

  49. I most enjoy watching various types of hummingbirds that stop to sip at a feeder hung outside my kitchen window. It’s an entertaining pastime easily viewed from inside, so I can avoid melting from the 105-109 afternoon high temperatures that seemed to have become the norm.

  50. I most enjoy our annual trip to our East Coast home, where I try to take in enough of the Atlantic Ocean sights and smells to last me all year in the Midwest.

  51. What beautiful fabrics. I’m thinking of a table runner to remind me of the ocean breezes. I miss the ocean – not much water here in the high desert of AZ. We camp on the Calif coast whenever we get the chance.
    Helen P.

  52. I remember the cool summery days and visiting the ocean shores listenning to the water crash on the rocks. And the country side were beautiful, oh how I want to go back and see it again ! Oh and when the leaves turn colors. Ohhh lahlaa

  53. I love to catch up on my knitting in the summer – seems like I need to knit winter items when it’s hot, today it’s woolen mittens! But I could switch over to sewing at any time if I had some new fabric………

    Cindy

  54. I like going to the pool in the evening to cool off after a hot day. Also like going to the beach during the summer to feel the cool ocean breeze.

  55. Summer is a time of year that is made for family time, relaxation and time to leisurely. pursue my hobbies. As a family we vacation together and get to spend time reconnecting with our extended family such as aunts and cousins. It ‘s an easy fun time for families.

  56. well i live in the south- so taking a walk is out of the question with the oppressive heat-95-105 daily and the misquitos that tag along with you- but we do love having crawfish boils, watermelon & bluebell ice cream! of course, having longer days to enjoy-is also a plus!

  63. just spent a lovely few days on Cape Cod at the Lighthouse Inn – what a lovely way to begin the summer – the colors of the water, pool and grass were so crisp and clean.

  64. My vacation starts Friday at 3 pm. I’m so excited. I’m not going anywhere but my quilt studio. I have two quilts that I hope to get done. I’m also hoping for rain, we need it and I also won’t feel so bad that I’m not outside enjoying the summer weather.

  65. Summer and fabric go together at our lake home. I love sitting at the sewing machine and looking out at loons and fisherpeople and egrets and deer and clouds drifting lazily by while I try to create.

  66. Summer memories are of screen doors, snow cones and fireflies, sitting on a tree branch and fishing with my brother, hot steamed blue crabs, and the Eastern Shore. I still love these things, but now I now live inland and don’t get to enjoy them as often.

  67. What beautiful fabrics to create something
I love summer by the water
and collecting seashells from ocean beaches when visiting the south
I would love either one of these collections to see what I could create.
    Thank-you

  68. This summer it’s all about local farmer’s markets and air conditioning … too hot to grow our own produce this year! Love supporting local farmers, though!

  69. I love the smells and colors of summer–from the fresh grean leaves in the garden to the blues of the water. When the sun warms our yard my senses come alive as I smell the aroma of the plants and flower. Great time to relax, catch up on reading my textile books and magazines.

  70. BEcause I teach all year and come home exhausted, I love summer because it gives me time to sew and quilt. Temperatures here in the Great Central Valley of California have been over 100 for days. Nothing’s better than turning on daytime TV and sewing at the machine.

  71. My favorite part of summer is being in the garden, planting, trimming, picking…. filling up the bird bath, watching the butterflies… feeding my soul!
    Lynn

  72. I would like to see what the fabric looks like unrolled. It looks like the blues of the gulf or ocean side, sands in taupes or lite tans. Would be nice for a challenge or contest!

  73. Seeing the joy on my boys faces from playing in creek. The smell of fresh cut grass and hay. The aroma of fresh picked herbs from my garden. Country living in the summer is awesome! πŸ™‚

  74. Here in the Northeast we’re divided into ocean or lake people. I’m definately a lake person – my fondest memories are of spending vacations lakeside at a rental cottage. Love the colors of nature & would be thrilled to be the recipient of these fabrics. Thanks for the opportunity to vie for them!

  78. We grow and EAT organic veggies and berries! Right now picking the first tomatoes in MI…what could be better. And picking blackberries to stew and eat over ice cream…nothing reminds me more of summer!

  79. The vine-ripened local tomatoes, fresh-picked blueberries and corn. Those tastes cannot be surpassed with grocery store buys available throughout the year. We are a lucky nation to have such abundance so it is a “guilty pleasure”, but a pleasure nonetheless. Then there is the beautiful ocean.

  80. I love all the different local farmers markets that are open. I don’t think I’ll ever get over that feeling of “School’s Out” when Summer arrives. It’s so ingrained from childhood. It’s like special permission to spend time any way you want to; which for me means sewing.

  81. I love sitting on my patio swing enjoying the mountain view, and watching the birds at our birdbath and feeder, and love to go camping in the summer!

  82. Picking blackberries for breakfast, cucumbers and tomatoes for lunch and frying a big zucchini for dinner. It would be wonderful to have a garden all year long, not just in the summertime

  83. The best thing this summer for me is to be able to do a little quilting. It is my sanity, my diversion, and it makes me happy. I am caretaking both of my parents 24/7 and being able to work with fabric releaves a lot of stress and tension. Being able to get a little sewing in is what I like enjoy best about this summer.

  88. spending the days at a quiet fishing village in Brittany, France with bright blue skies, turquoise seas and white caster sugar sand………and non-one else in sight……mulling over the next patchwork projects …..fabulous.

  89. The abundance of fresh vegetables tops my list of summer favorites. Not far behind are those naps during the frequent afternoon thunderstorms in this area. I am sooooo blessed!

  90. I love summer sunsets and evenings. The temperature has cooled and it is perfect for enjoying the splendid colors and shapes of the summer late day sky. It is especially great if you are on one of the eastern shores of the Great Lakes. The deep blues of the water reflect the oranges and reds of the sun and clouds on the water. I have even seen sunsets that were obscured by fog but reflect in the water. Even better if you have someone with whom to share the sunset!

  91. The smells of summer – flowers, fresly cut grass. The sounds of summer – children playing, birds and bees. The feel of summer – the sun on my face, soft grass under my feet. The sights of summer – the greens of trees, the fusion of many-colored flowers from the garden. It’s not summer without all of these!

  92. During the month of August all I plan to do is breath. It is very meditative and relaxing. It helps me plan for the remainder of the year including my quilting projects

  96. The best thing I like about summer is being able to go back home, from where I live now in Liverpool, NY to St. Andrews by the Sea to see my family.

I love CNY, but I miss the ocean and family. Two more weeks and I will be dipping my toes in the Atlantic, hugging my Dad, Uncles, Aunts and Cousins as I breathe in the sweet salt air. I can’t wait!

  97. Red and white roses blooming outside my back door. Yellow and peach colored Iris outside the front door along with the blue creeping phlox! Summer,YUM!

  99. I love the fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. There’s nothing better than the color and aroma when you bite into a just picked peach. Colors just seem more alive this time of year.

  100. The warmth of the sun on my face, the feel of the cool breeze and most of all the scent of the fresh salt air while daydreaming my next quilting project.

  101. I too used to enjoy being outside in the sun, the long daylight hours, the flowers, the fresh fruits and veggies, fishing and some gardening. Unfortuntely, due to illness and the Hot midwest weather I can only enjoy these things for short periods of time. I am now spending more time inside than outside so I am trying to learn how to quilt, new crochet techniques (Knook) as I do know how to crochet, and plan on learning to sew (I do own a sewing machine). I am hopefull that I will be able to teach my grandaughter these things too.

  102. My favorite part of summer is sitting outside in the backyard on our deck enjoying all the sites and sounds of birds and bees. Every once in a while, we see a big buck or red fox run though the open space behind our property. It’s wonderful.

  103. Summer in New England not only provides a refreshing escape from cold weather clothing and heating bills, it brings a bit of excitement to the warm, sun-filled air. Everyone buzzes about to soak up as much outside time and seasonal wonders as possible. It’s absolutely magical.

  104. I love the long days of sunshine and more time for quilting and sewing! BTW I love both lines of fabric. Moda really knows how to pick designers. Both Kate and Deb have amazing talent!

  105. Thank you for the chance to win those beautiful fabrics from Kate Spain. What I enjoy most about summer is that the day is longer, and the nights are shorter. It makes me happy when I am able to gather inspiration from all of nature. My projects definitely look brighter when I create during summer!

  106. I love looking at all that nature provides us. The trees green, the flowers blooming, the green grass and the beautiful blue skies. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous also. I use all these things as inspiration for making my art quilts..

  107. Summer for me is a time to relax and renew, to pursue those things I usually don’t have time for (I’m a teacher) and to reflect on the beautiful world that I live in.

  108. I love the food of summertime from the wonderful harvest to the grilled meats. Of course no night of grilling is complete without a campfire and snores!

  112. Sun ripened produce right from the garden, watching little kids play in the splash fountains around the city and mainly spending time with my now retired husband in quiet peace, these are some of my favorite summer things.

  113. I love my summer gardens in Ohio! Lilies, shasta daisies, black eyed susans! Bunches of cut flowers on my kitchen table just makes my day go better!

  114. The most enjoyable part of summer is the days when I can take my fabric and paint outside and play – just create and not have to worry about getting paint on anything .

  115. I love sleeping with the windows open and hearing the night sounds: frogs, cicadas, screech owls, even the neighborhood cats! And the soft summer rain. So relaxing!

  116. Well, I am sorry to say that I don’t really enjoy summers like I used to do. Earlier in my life I would be down the shore (up in the northeast) every weekend of the summer swimming, shell collecting, building sand castles, et.c. Now I live in the south and most recently it has been too hot to even go outside except to take the dogs for a walk. Even then it is too darn hot but they insist on going so .. we go. Sometimes when I think of those early years, I can almost smell the salt marshes and water and hear the sounds of gulls, terns, and black skimmers squawking away. Looks like I might have to track down those fabrics for a “memories of summer” quilt.

  117. What I like about summer is:
Going on holiday – make the day different than throug all year – relax.
Love good weather too – that makes it perfect.

  120. Here in southern British Columbia summer means hot days and warm evenings. The best part of my summer day is joining my husband in the late afternoon for a visit in the gazebo, to enjoy the flower gardens we have built, to listen to the water fountain splashing, and to feel the warm breeze blowing through the gazebo.

  121. I love to sit on the back of our Harley , riding !!! today it has cooled off finally , so I love having some windows open for fresh air !

  122. I love everything about summer! The warmth, the birds flitting about our feeders and birdbaths, more daylight hours to be out and about. Even when it’s too hot and muggy to enjoy the outdoors, I love sewing or reading by the window looking out on my gardens. And homegrown heirloom tomatoes!!

  123. I am blessed with a porch facing west where there is always a slight breeze.. Around the porch you see four large evergreens. All day long you may sit in the cool of the shade, despite 100 degree heat, and experience every slight breeze streaming from the west. Your vision is captured and your ears are serenaded by red men, (cardinals), blue men (blue jays), robust orange bellies (robins), and the wrens, sparrows, and a yellow finch or two dancing about the neighborhood. Ah, then you have the wonderful fragrance of milkweed flowers from the southern side, carried by the moving air to my front door. Soon to follow are the monarchs, tiger swallowtail or two, and other friends who visit the flowers and plants in the yard, touching the land with peace, joy, life, and hope.

  124. Thanks for the contest.
The fabric is beautiful and I can just imagine using it in a light summer quilt.
Summer mornings are so nice, sitting on porch with coffee thinking about
a new quilt pattern. Quilt Art is so much fun…quick to make so can share with
    someone right away!

  125. The best thing about summer is all the outdoor activities: hiking, biking, lazy walk with the dog, trails by lakes, baseball! Fresh air is the best!!!!

  128. I love being outside and seeing all my flowers blooming and watching the humming birds and all the other birds raising their babies. Just sitting on my deck in early mornings when it is so quiet and peaceful is soothing and relaxing things I can imagine.

  129. Getting up early, sitting at the large window in my sewing room and listening to the birds wake and sing. The singing starts my day off beautifully.

  130. I really miss Maine summers! I spend most of my time here in an Idaho summer watering the garden. But we eat well and I still grow plenty of flowers. The best part of summer is ripe tomatoes fresh off the vine.

  131. Oh, Summer in Arizona is a time to hibernate with a good sewing machine and wonderful fabrics. Then the monsoon comes and we have haboobs (massive dust storms) almost every day. On days that we are blessed to have a downpour after the haboob, it cools the temperatures that may have been 115 degrees down to 90. Thats when the neighborhood opens their doors and come out looking for any damage caused by lightning and wind.

  132. I am a teacher, so the summer affords me the time to take my first cup of coffee down to my sewing room in the morning and play with a new idea, or see how yesterday’s adventures look a day later. Sometimes these early morning ventures stretch well into the afternoon!

  133. I grew up in Maine, so what I liked best about the summer was heading to the beach (ocean) to spend the day, collect shells, building sandcastles, and playing in the waves. I could even manage to forget the sunburn that would result, and even the sand all in my bathing suit. πŸ™‚ Great memories of the beach!

  134. What I love most about summer is going up to Cape Cod for vacation. My Mom and Dad took us there every summer and the tradition has continued. I now have the joy of watching my grandbabies play at the beach.

  135. Summer is so full of rejuvenation and inspiration. Our home is surrounded by 2000 acres of state land and in the lake effect snow belt of central NY. Summer for us is taking advantage and appreciating all the outdoors has to give us. My favorite summer activity is a walk with the dogs through the woods appreciating natures colors, sounds and hidden treasures, followed by relaxing on the deck with starry night skies, unpolluted by city lights or the sound of traffic.

  136. I love the summer because of the warm weather, great fresh vegetables and the time I get to spend with my grandkids. Teaching children to love fabric and how easy it is to put things together. They have very interesting tastes….like the summer.

  137. Sitting in the sun in the summertime, is the only time I really feel well. I love to take a book to read or something to sew or knit and my dog and picnic in the park. We sit on the little hill overlooking the dog run so we can watch the dogs play and have lovely afternoons.

  138. The best things about summer are being in my garden and slowing down, taking time to appreciate the beauty around me, being inspired by it, and expressing that inspiration in creating different kinds of art.

  139. What I love mostly about summer is being outside with all the sounds and smells of nature. I, also, love sitting at the shore. It’s so peaceful closing my eyes and listening to the sound of the waves. Of course, I always “see a quilt” in the making with all the colors nature has to give.

  140. I love the days of warm sun that start with fog in the morning left over from the cool evening temps. Western Washington is beautiful year round, but oh those blue sky days!!!

  141. I love all the wildflowers. I love the way they change every few weeks. Right now it is Queen Anne’s Lace that is everywhere, and it’s interspersed with purple chicory, Irish thistle, sweet peas and sunflowers. Wildflowers are everywhere here in West Virginia. They grow along the sides of the roads, in vacant lots and at the edges of my own property. I don’t have to even leave home to I keep my vases full. West Virginia in the summer is truly “almost heaven.” to me. Fresh mountain air, clear mountain water, wildflowers everywhere! It doesn’t get any better.

  143. What I most enjoy about summer is sitting on my deck and watching the birds, looking at the beautiful flowers and trees. We lots of trees and the birds are many. There is a certain smell with the flowers and the woods that can not be explained.

  145. Oh, so many good things about summer. Long days with warm nights, warm days with fewer clothes, flowers and gardens growing, going barefoot, having birthdays, fun little festivals everywhere, going someplace new or an old favorite haunt, playing in the water, trying new things (like dyeing fabric), yummy fresh foods…. can you tell I LOVE summer?

  146. In my part of Oregon, the joke is that we have two seasons: winter and August! I soak up summer–the heat, the riot of colors in the garden, the crisp blue sky– knowing it’s short lived.

  147. Summer revives and renews everything – including me. Sunshine makes me feel optimistic and strong, and I am biased to think that we have the most amazing clouds, sunsets and cool starry nights here in the southwest.

  148. What I enjoy about the summer is the mornings and evenings. The mornings are fresh cool and optomistic feeling of a great day to get things done or just have fun. The evenings..after dusk…just to relax out on the patio in the cool breeze of the evening and calm down and relax from a busy day. I take my drawing pad/graph paper with me for the times an idea hits me to sketch a design for a quilt and just sip on some ice tea and watch the stars come out. Its even better if one of my grand daughters are with me..then we talk about “back in the day” when I was little!

  149. There are so many things that are great about summer…..the wonderful fresh fruits and veggies from your backyard garden, beautiful flowering plants and shrubs, being able to wear light a breezy clothing, long daylight hours to enjoy your favorite activities, warm summer nights to relax in, county fairs, and the list goes on…… These fabrics would be great to express the freedom and beauty of summer.

  150. Summer enjoyment means taking time off from work and spending it with my grandchildren. Whatever we do it’s fun because we are together. Memories….that’s what it’s about.

  151. this summer was so much fun watching my great granddaughter Kelodeigh 3 running to the back yard waiting for the flowers to bloom. Once the colorful buds opened she choose purple as her favorite and would visit the flowers daily

  152. My favorite part of summer is all the fresh fruit available. I live in a northern state and winter can get kind of blah, especially in food. I know you can get “fresh fruit” all year round but it really is “fresh” in the summer.
    Phoebe@usfamily.net

  153. Summer is a great time…time for picnics, fairs and festivals. Enjoying fresh fruits and veggies from the backyard garden, wearing light and breezy clothing, long daylight hours to enjoy all your favorite activities, warm summer nights to relax in, reveling in all the beautiful flowering plants and shrubs….These fabrics would be perfect to reflect all the joys of summer in a beautiful quilt that could be admired and take us back to those carefree warm days when we are in the middle of winter.

  154. I enjoy soooo much the tastes and colors and daily-changing landscape of our summer vegetable garden! From its humble beginnings of just a few seeds and a bit of dirt, it guarantees a bounty of fresh, delicious flavors to share with people we love, and a treasury to the eye of colors and textures in an ever-updating and rich display of nature. The veggies and their plant lifelines provide a creative feast for both culinary and studio creations: offering an explosion of color and texture to inspire many an artful adventure in cloth, paper and paint, pencil as well as in the kitchen!

  155. I like the lightened schedule, the lack of meetings, so I can enjoy my flowers.
Also love the fireflies at night, listening to the mourning dove, and the ability to stay inside with the air conditioning when it gets too hot!

  156. The thing I enjoy most about summer is the end of it! I am ready for some cooler days and nights.

What I used to enjoy most was a trip to the Oregon coast every summer. Remember only one hot year.

  157. Sitting outside in the cool early morning, drinking coffee, and listening to the birds. It’s so calm and peaceful since all the neighborhood children are still either sleeping or haven’t ventured outside yet.

Also, the smell of freshly cut grass!

  158. I love the summer because it’s a time when friends come to visit and share our home, making colourful for their beds is one of my favourite winer pastimes and when I say goodbye I give them the quilts so they can remember their happy days by the sea.

  159. Well this will sound weird but my favorite thing about summer is lack of people. I live in south Florida and when the snow birds fly away for the summer it’s lovely. No lines at restaurants, less traffic, parking places at the beach. yippee!

  160. I love summer because I love having long days to spend outside with my handwork…stitching in the sun with a breeze blowing is just heavenly!

Thank you for the giveaway…these are lovely fabrics.

  161. I love the birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees…I love everything about summer. I love harvesting my garden and mowing the grass. I especially like to sew/craft in my craft room that looks out on the beautiful wasatch mountains. Often there are deer, mountain quail, pheasants, squirrels, etc. right out my window.

  162. I am lucky enough to live in central Florida year round… and to me, it seems like summer year round! Love the clear blue sky, fluffy while clouds floating by, blooming plants & bushes, the beach, the pools, the fruits & veggies in season, and outdoor BBQs, etc…

  163. I love enjoying my porch, (I do a lot of small hand projects there) listening to the birds, watching the birds, seeing the flowers, just plain enjoying nature. Plus the days as longer, so there is more time to sew.

  164. I like summer for the warm temps making it able for me to wear shorts and tops and feel young again. I love to visit my brother-in-law on the east coast and enjoy the sea breezes, the gardens, and the lobster. Would love the fabric, of course, to remind me of those days.

  165. Living in the country , summer, is seeing all the baby animals as they venture from the nests. The Seascape line will work very nicely in my planned blue/white quilt.
    Shirley

  166. The summer is great for me. I am a nature person at heart rather be outside than stuck inside all the time. I like to take a cold drink set under my big oak tree in my swing. I can watch the birds fly over, feel the breeze gently blow around me and hear the noise of grasshoppers as they jump by. This to me is great and relaxing forgetting the worries of the day or problems that may have arisen. Just enjoying life setting in my swing going back and forth gently taking in the day.

  167. My favorite thing about summer is being able to have lazy days and rush from one spot to another! I love seeing my kids be able to play with each other for hours on end. πŸ™‚

  168. What I enjoy most about summer are the warm summer storms. There’s just something about the way the air smells, the vibrant green of the trees against the deep purple clouds & the pops of blue/white flashes darting across the sky. There’s nothing quite like sitting out on my front porch during these storms, just taking it all in!

  169. Working in my gardens is what I most enjoy about summer. Tending and then harvesting the first tomatoes, squash, and blueberries are my rewards! Oh, and let’s not forget… Feeding the weeds to my geese! ~ Lynda

  170. So many things… Seattle is beautiful in the summer- even when it is raining. Still light until 10pm! And I love that I have the opportunity to spend more time with my Mom who teaches so she is off in the summer.

  171. The cute clothes you can make out of the many different prints on the market, which are usually made in cotton and/or polyester! In winter you have to dress warm where I am from and you just don’t find the lively beautiful prints in heavier fabric. I love to sew for my granddaughter and the creativity just seems to come alive with summer apparel.

  172. Just like when I was a kid – summer is freedom! More time to spend with family and friends, traveling, daydreaming and reading. Too hot outside? Then time to plan and complete new quilts and projects under the cool inside air. Best time of the year!!

  173. In Texas, we try to stay inside with our air conditioning. So my favorite spot is in my studio, playing with fabrics, paints and threads. I envy the coolness in summer of the northern states, but love our winters here.

  174. I love the flowers and vegetables in my gardens. I have a greenhouse, but it is just not the same as being outside working in the dirt and seeing the produce from your efforts.

  175. Summer is for fun. No coats or gloves. Sitting on my porch of an evening enjoying the sunset, or watching my grandson play on the grass. When the canyon breeze comes down in the evening with it’s icy feel, it is exhilarating and heavenly.

  176. I love watching my son relax with his friends and the carefree way they decide their activities each day. Beach volleyball, hiking, biking, eating? It’s all good!

  177. I love watching my son relax with his friends and the carefree way they decide their activities each day. Beach volleyball, hiking, biking, eating? It’s all good!

  178. The best part of my summers has always been the activities that bring me closest to the sea. I love visiting the local lighthouse, strolling along the boardwalk and collecting shells along the shoreline.

  179. Fresh corn on the cob, cooking out (in the evening!), biking around my hometown and the country roads, having grandkids over to stay and play are the best parts of summer in Illinois. It’s too hot this year to enjoy some of this, but another year will be better! Love that Cuzco roll! The bright colors with white says “hot time in the summer”!!

  180. I think the thing I enjoy most about Summer is that I get fresh fruit and veggies out of the garden. All that hard work is worth it for crisp corn on the cob and juicy berries!

  181. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, there are quilt shows right here and quilters to cheer! Everything is green, the roadside is bright with flowers of all colors and the sky is an amazing shade of blue. Al fresco suppers on the deck and sewing with all the windows open are some of the favorite things I do in the summer.

  182. What do I love about summer? Everything! It’s the perfect season to enjoy life on the beautiful island I am blessed to live on. I also love strolling the beach to see if some inspiring shells or driftwood washed up. Free craft supplies!

  183. Since I live in Hawaii, I have the warm sunshine, flowers, and beaches all year long. So in the summer, I love the fresh fruits that come from the mainland U.S. – peaches, nectarines, blueberries, raspberries, cherries.

  184. I love the sunshine & being outside. I live in Pittsburgh, PA (where we have a lot of gray days)! I enjoy seeing all the flowers in their splendid colors, blue skies, green grass & trees (before the drought). It inspires me to work with bright colorful fabrics in new designs. I think the sunshine recharges my creative batteries:)

  185. Warm weather, getting outside, travel, green, visiting family, fresh fruit and vegetables from the farmer’s market, walks on the beach, and having time to sew.

  186. I love being able to see when I get up in the morning. In winter it is still dark when I get up and I have to turn on lights. In the summer, I don’t have to!

  187. I love the colors of summer as well as the tastes. The color of a salad with fresh fruits and vegetables can inspire a quilt. Or, the other day, a visit to a public garden had me thinking about a quilt design:-)

  188. I just love the smell of fresh flowers, and cut grass, the birds and little creatures scurring around playfully, the sunsets in the evening and being able to spend time with all my family doing special things together.

  189. I am lucky enough to be living in the Ocean State, where both my husband and I were born and raised. What more can I say about sae breezes and beautiful flowers?!!

  190. I am blessed to have lived in THE OCEAN STATE all my life(60yrs). What more could I say about the ses breezes that are never more than 20 minutes away and the beautiful gardens and the wild flowers in the rural area that I live in. WE are the smallest state in the union, yet we have busy cities, large and small towns, old mill villages, farms, woodlands, and of course lots of seashore and fresh water lakes and ponds, What more could anyone want?

  191. Summer is picking berries in my “strawberry fields forever” garden and then either eating them warmed by the sun or sprinkled over home-made ice cream.

  192. Summer is a time to create, new ideas arise just like the flowers and all the little creatures. It is a breathe if fresh air for getting out to go to the beach and take photos of all creation. We have to have ideas for the winter when we are indoors so much.

  193. In Wisconsin winter nights and darkness come early. When summer comes I enjoy the extended daylight hours. The fabric looks lovely for future projects. Thanks for the chance!

  194. I love the warm sun on my skin, sitting in the fresh air in my garden, with friends and family. As I am recovery from brain surgery I am cherishing and celebrating every day.

  195. I love the warm sun on my skin, sitting in the fresh air in my garden, with friends and family. As I am recovery from brain surgery I am cherishing and celebrating every day.

  196. I have not enjoyed the very hot days we have had in Pennsylvania this year. I do love the vacation we take in Rockport Mass. each year. Sun, ocean, relaxing with a book and the good seafood… all you need. The one roll of flowery fabrics looks like the Cosmos flowers I see blooming in many gardens in Rockport.

  197. Living in a northern cool climate, my favorite part of summer is just the absolute joy of walking outside on a warm (or even hot) summer day, even if the walk is as simple as just going to the mailbox and back, feeling the sun’s warmth on my skin.

  198. What pretty fabric, thanks for the giveaway. I love summer, I love everything about it. The warm weather and being able to play outside. I like the cooler weather at night so you can go out and look at the stars. Swimming and car shows are the top things on our list of really fun things to do.

  199. I like being able to just walk outside to my garden and pick fresh broccoli, tomatoes, onions, beans, and zinnias. They are delicious for both palate and eyes. Great give away. Burchy

  200. Sitting in the park in the sunshine having a picnic, being able to stitch outside in the garden, walking past the beautiful gardens in the neighbourhood.

  201. bunnies in the yard; tomatoes from the garden; weeding (hard to believe, I know); fresh flowers on the kitchen windowsill; peaches, plums and cherries; butterflies

  202. One of the things I enjoy most about the summer is being in my sewing room and looking out the window when sewing or ironing and seeing a doe and her two fawns, or a fox and her kits.

  203. I love taking walks just before sunset to see the beautiful colors. Of course it needs to be cooler than it’s been this summer (100-107)!!

    Dian

  204. I love the color of summer the most from the vibrant reds to the beautiful greens. You indeed see the spectrum of the rainbow in the summer in our gardens.

  205. I love the color of summer the most from the vibrant reds to the beautiful greens. You indeed see the spectrum of the rainbow in the summer in our gardens.

  206. The best thing about summer is the fact that you are free to go outside and stay as long as you can, with out a coat or jacket! I hate wearing a coat! Summer just makes everything easier and brighter!!

  207. I think what I most enjoy about summer is the FREEDOM….freedom from heavy shoes, so I can wiggle my toes in the sand at the Jersey shore, or in my backyard in the grass (altho watch the dog poop!)…..freedom from heavy coats – just throw on shorts and a t-shirt, some flip flops and off we go. Also….Freedom from the darkness…it is lighter so much later that I feel I have more time after work to do fun things….like SEW! Everyone enjoy their summer, it will be over before we know it!!

  208. I love not having to worry about what is coming down from the sky (snow), or that I don’t have to have silence (I can hear the animals on my acreage)!

  209. I enjoy having my great granddaughters daily during this very hot Arkansas summer. The 11 year old attended Sea Camp at Marine Biology Center on the Gulf this year and is now all about sea animals,etc.. As I am teaching her to sew, she would love the sea fabric. The 7 year old has been reading and learning all about flowers and plants, and she would like to have the floral fabric to help big sister sew something for her. Thanks.

  212. The best things about summer are finally being able to slow down when the kids are out of school. I then have the time to sleep in if wanted, enjoy the outdoors more, daydream about the projects I want to accomplish and most of all spend more time with my kids while making those projects. A couple of my kids just love looking through fabrics and coming up with ideas for them and it warms my heart to be able to do it with them.

  213. Most definitely the best thing of summer is the kids getting out of school and then I finally have the time to slow down and enjoy life. I can spend more time with them doing all the things we love. A couple of my kids absolutely love looking over all my fabrics and help come up with ideas for them.. Some of them ideas are wonderfully inventive.

  214. Summer in central Florida is nothing like summer in New England and certainly not like summer in Chicago, where I lived for many, many years. Yes, it’s hot–but if you go out in the early morning or evening, the air is pleasant, comfortable and delightfully scented with crepe myrtle and four o’clocks. Just as dawn arrives and the barred owls retreat to their roosts, the swallowtail kites take wing and soar with elegant grace overhead. Soon they’ll be migrating to South America, and we won’t see them again until April. But the owls stay and laugh together all night, all year. Summer in our part of Florida is a blessing I could never have imagined until we moved here.

  215. I enjoy having my children and grandchildren and extended family together at the beach. We spend our days swimming, floating, building sandcastles and sand creatures, watching live sea turtles tend their nests, blowing bubbles and playing board games at night after big meals we cook for one another.
Summer at the beach is all about family; reconnecting, family traditions, and loving one another, especially the young ones.

  216. I love the summer because I can be outside playing with my grandchildren and going around the flower and vegetable garden with them looking for bugs, butterflies and having the warm sun shining on my face.

  217. I live in New England, where summers are never long enough! I love the long days, warmth of the sun, tending to my flowers and taking long walks with friends.

  218. Summer in Maine is all about the green of the forests and fields and the blues of the lakes and ocean. I love to use fabrics that remind me of my country home.

  219. Summer in Maine is all about the green of the forests and fields and the blues of the lakes and ocean. I love to use fabrics that remind me of my country home.

  220. I work in a quilt shop in the summer (scool during the school year) and love teaching sewing and quilting. I love getting students excited about what they are making, and giving as many tips as I can to make thing interesting for them.

  221. I love working in my garden, putting up food from the garden, but then coming into my studio on a hot afternoon to sew or weave or simply read Quilting Arts or veg out.

  222. I love spending time relaxing at our cottage, watching the humming birds and watching the sunsets with my husband. Summer is when I actually have time to do some quilting. This summer I am working on recreating one of those gorgeous sunsets as an art quilt.

  223. I love the beach, spending time with my family, sunshine, fresh breezes – some of my favorite things about summer!! Oh, and field ripened cantaloupe and tomatoes!!

  224. I like summer as I am relaxing in the sun watching all the beautiful colored flowers sway in the wind, whiles bees and butterflies taste the nector; the birds are singing, and the new fawns with their white spots graze nearby. Love, Love summer.

  225. The wildflowers at the side of the road. The color of the sky after a thunderstorm. The sound of children playing. The riot of green and color in the garden. These are a few of the things I like about summer.

  226. I love summer because we travel to visit all our grandchildren- this year I took 4 quilts with us for them- so rewarding to see their faces and then for the girls to ask me to teach them how to quilt. I also love pool time, the monsoons and cactus in bloom. I love Moda fabrics- hope to be the lucky winner. Thanks Ann

  227. The best thing about summer is being able to get outside & paint, bleach,&airbrush fabric. I love to fill the lawn with colorful pieces of fabric drying in the sun.

  229. Summers in the Pacific Northwest are wonderful, even when we don’t have full days of sunshine. The fresh berries, greens, veggies, and flowers are tremendous. And I love gardening to the tunes of all the birds that summer here.

  233. Oh summer, the time to enjoy the great out-of-doors, the canning and jelly making to enjoy the rest of the year. Plus being able to set up a quilt frame outside and enjoy the fresh air while quilting.

  234. All the extra light, both quality and quantity; sitting in the park at one of our many music festivals; time to spend with family and friends; late night walks with beautiful breezes; watching the power of nature in the thunderstorms; seeing the plants growing with the broad spectrum of colours. In fact, if it wasn’t for the darned heat, summer would probably be my favourite season.

  235. Wow, that’s tough–I usually adore both of these ladies new lines of fabric! I guess if I have to choose, I’d go with the Cuzco… Thanks for the chance!

  236. Things I enjoy about summer are the wonderful scents that are around us. When walking through the garden during a sunny day – a great smelling flower, and in the evening sitting by a camp fire- smells great!

  237. It has to be a tie between gardening and walking on a beach at the beginning or end of the day. I watch flowers, bushes and trees come in bloom as the summer progresses and I enjoy their beauty and the magic of it all. Forget-me-knots, redbud trees, lillies, iris, lavender, roses, clematis, coreopsis, hollyhocks, and now the brown-eyed susans and purple cone flowers that the gold finches can’t get enough of. Top that off with a stroll on the beach at sunset with my dog and husband and that is a perfect summer day.

  238. I live in “paradise,” Miami, Florida, but summers are muggy–hot and humid.
To escape the afternoon humidity I head to my sewing room and work on unfinished projects, mainly sewing for the grandkids which makes me happy.

  239. I love summers because I can be outside in the garden in the mornings and listen to all of the wonderful bird songs while I work. When it gets too hot to stay outside, I can come in and quilt, spin or weave….or just read. A wonderful time when it is just too hot to stay out and I don’t have to feel guilty about not continuing to work in the gardens.

  240. oh, what I most enjoy about summer are the days when I can be out on the farm with my husband. I get to take him lunch and learn about the machinery and the animals. Very relaxing time. When I get home, I am free to take my relaxed self right to my studio–the dining room– and get to creating.

  241. I love the crisp, clear, clean air of a summer morning before traffic-just the birds and me πŸ™‚
I also love to sew and wear the beautiful colourful fabrics that denote spring/summer

I also love to sew and wear the beautiful colourful fabrics that denote spring/summer

  243. I think most is the excuse to drink a TON of iced tea out on the the patio, I love it but I’m not a fan of cold beverages except in the summer. What I dislike most? feeling torn between going outside where its warm and staying inside to sew πŸ˜‰

  244. Warm to hot long days/nights walking, eating out in the balmy air & meeting up with friends unexpectedly then sharing coffee and cake down on the beach. Fun.
Thank you for this exciting colorful giveaway from my fave designers.

  245. I enjoy spending time with family and friends at a more relaxed pace. It is a time to sit outside and let the world float by. It is also a time to make sure that my air conditioner is working since in Texas we end up with temperatures in the 100s. That is a sure thing. It’s just a guess about how many days we get of those temps. So stay in the cool with my quilting and I’m happy.

  246. I live in Nova Scotia which although beautiful all year round, it is the colours of summer I enjoy. My garden has shades of greens in hostas, brilliant yellows in black eyed susans, magenta in lambs ears, purple in clematis and reds and golds in my roses. Blue is represented in my lovely oramental grasses. But one cannot forget the rosy strawberries, raspberries and deep blue/purple of the blueberries. Every time your eye looks there is colour which inspires quilts and it is nice enough to sit outside and hand sew on quilts while enjoy eye candy and fruits in a bowl at hand. Every trip to the quilt shop takes you by houses also in a riot of colour and through valleys filled with grape vines marching up and down hillsides of greens of every shade. Lastly the best sunrises and sunsets you can find; Mother Natures Evening Dresses.

  247. Each summer is different, especially as you age. I remember the carefree days of my youth, playing outdoors until dark, colleting lightning bugs to hide under the bed from Mom until bedtime, eating homemade icecream, watermelon and boiled peanuts. This summer may just be the best ever. My 12 year old grandaughter is spending the summer with me. We have tried to create pages in our memory books to never forget. We have been crafting and painting canvas , have gone to the zoo, played on the beach, have Friday night movie night and laughed non stop. We have had a lion encounter with 8 week old Lion Cubs, She is taking art classes two days a week while at my house. We stay up late, sleep in and enjoy being with each other.

Last week she had a booth at a local market selling painted canvas, earrings and other things she made while at my house What a wonderful confidence builder she receved from this. Before she leaves, she is going to make a small quilt for her dog. I thought that would be a good thing to get her started, I hope she inherits my love for the sewing machine, quilting and mixed media.

  248. Going on a picnic, eating fried chicken and fresh vegetables grown from your own garden;
    dipping your toes in the cool water from a stream or river;
    feeling the warmth of the sun on your entire body;
    longer days to sew and quilt;
    so many concerts to go and see;
    nice cool nights to make you sleep more;

Thank you for a chance to win such two rolls from such great designers.

  251. Summer in Kansas is extremely hot this year — I started to learn to quilt and have made several quilts. Am currently making doll quilts and learning more about quilting.

  252. summer to me , means watching my 2 girl running in the sprinklers in our back yard and eating homemade icecream and icy lemonaid and stunning sunsets and a whole lot more family and fun time together.

  253. i love having the windows open (when it’s not too hot). having fresh vegetables from the garden and just being outside. Winters are long in Northeast Ohio so we always look forward to summer

  254. I love beeing outside, smelling flowers, watching humming birds, eating fresh organic food from my garden. Awesome fabric, thanks for the chance to win.

  255. I enjoy the bright colorful flowers that bloom in summer. As I visit neighbors and friends I notice their gardens large or small and see the happiness that those flowers bring to all who gaze upon them. Summer just equals bright, sunny shades of happy.

  256. My immediate response was ‘fruit’ but that would have left out colorful summer flowers, the wide variety of fresh veggies. And I wouldn’t want to leave out riding the ocean waves, walks under trees in full leaf. If it has to be limited to a few words: Nature’s summer bounty!

  257. Summer is a time to place your sewing machine in front of a big window and watch Mother Nature at her best. There’s nothing better than being occasionally interrupted from sewing by looking eye-to-eye with a curious hummingbird! Butterflies lift your spirits and the large horse flies bump into the window reminding you of your task at hand!

  258. My favorite thing about summer is spending more time with family and friends. Especially my grandchildren. With weddings, graduations, musicals and sports, summer is the time of year when people gather together just a little bit more. It’s a busy time and I love it.

  259. I enjoy the long days, the relaxed attitudes, the comfortable clothes on summer. I enjoy the foods of summer: perfectly ripe and amazingly fresh local peaches, melons, corn, and tomatoes; and eating steamed crabs from the Chesapeake Bay with their spiciness mellowed by cold beer or white sangria. Ahh, summer.

  260. The “Cuzco” floral print reminds me of my roses, which are trying to bloom despite the drought and today’s 110 degree temps. I have to love sewing in my studio in air conditioned comfort this summer.

  261. I enjoy seeing family and having them come to our home which is in a resort town. I also love seeing the many tourists come to town because even though it is crowded and traffic is heavy, I know the local businesses are making the income that allows them to stay here year round.

  262. I love sunshine and warm weather. I love being out in the garden and riding the bike paths. I love getting together with my quilty friends and visiting quilt festivals and shows in our area.

  263. Things I love about summer are that my little sister gets to come visit & spend time with my daughter. Since during the school year we don’t see much of her.

  264. I love the colors found in summer fabrics since it is too hot here in north Texas to do much outdoors… that means lots of time to stay in my air conditioned sewing room!

  265. My favorite part of summer is going camping with my family and several friends. We’ve done this for close to 20 years. The participants change as some children have grown up, brought friends, but we always have a great time!

  266. I love the smells and sounds of summer; in particular, open windows that let in the sound of birds, cars driving by, and the smell of freshly turned earth in the gardens!

  267. i enjoy summer because both my birthday and our anniversary is in the summer. I don’t care much for the hot weather….but the AC makes for good sewing time inside!

  268. Living in Toronto, Canada I love the summers – although this one has been particularly hot and humid – still it’s a lot better than the winters!!

  269. In Louisiana it’s pretty hot, so staying cool is my favorite thing! Unless I can get to the beach, and then that definitely wins my favorite spot.

  271. My favorite part of summer is just being outdoors and enjoying the summer sights and sounds. The evening breeze and the chirping birds. I live in eastern Montana so the winter can get a little long sometimes.

  272. I love NO SNOW! I love being able to wear shorts and capris…garage saling and fishing in a boat…longer days and lots of evening walks.

  273. Just back from the seashore. Loved the waves, the whitecaps, the sea stars and tide pool creatures revealed at low tide. Collected some sand dollars and other shells. Love the blues and greens of the ocean, and a wonderful flowering cottage garden at The Sea Ranch.

  274. I love working outdoors in my flower gardens and going to Lake Erie to walk the beaches and find beach glass. The colors of nature find their way into my artwork. My favorite past-time is working in fabric arts and combining colors to make something uniquely mine.

  275. What I like most about summers here in the deep South are the beautiful flowers that are in bloom all summer. That, and warm summer rain. πŸ™‚
