Today is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., a day when we gather with family and friends, stuff ourselves with traditional foods (or their vegetarian, gluten-free, low-sodium versions), and reflect on what we are thankful for. Some of us also watch football.
Our entire Quilting Arts family feels especially thankful this year. Not just for the big things like family, friends, and health, but for the enjoyment we receive from our creative pursuits and the community of fiber and quilt artists. Which, when you think about it, is no small thing at all.
In that spirit, each of us would like to share with you what we're thankful for–plus a wish for a little creative something to play with in the New Year. I'll start!
I'm Thankful For: Dog hair on my clothes, because that means I have Elvis to snuggle with. And, I am thankful for my mother's patience in teaching me to sew. Without that, I'd probably never have picked up a needle.
Barb Brown, Assistant Editor :
I'm Thankful For: My new job as assistant editor and my studio in the middle of a supportive art community. It's my retreat from the "real" world, where I can create in peace.
Brenna Riley, Marketing Specialist :
I'm Thankful For: Learning how to quilt. There is something really special about taking bits and pieces of a favorite print, or even an old flannel shirt, and creating something new.
My Creative Gift Wish: I really want the Crystal Systems Quilt Kit. It looks like something I, as a beginner, could make. Plus, I love that there will be fabric left over so I can practice more!
Rose deBoer, Managing Editor:
I'm Thankful For: The time to stitch, knit, and finish my projects.
My Creative Gift Wish: Dyeing supplies to augment my surface design stash.
Assistant Editor Kristine Lundblad:
I'm Thankful For: My quilt group–four friends who support, encourage, and challenge each other in our individual quilting journeys.
My Creative Gift Wish: A collection of Aurifil thread (the largest suitcase possible).
I'm Thankful For: Plenty of space to store my sewing and craft supplies and finally getting my fabric stash organized so I can find what I need when starting new projects.
My Creative Gift Wish: The Easy Cyanotype Printmaking Kit. So handy to have all the "ingredients" in one place.
Ashley Lauwereins, Online Marketing Manager :
I'm Thankful For: A cat that is always down for cuddling and daily creative inspiration from my job and coworkers..
And of course, we are all thankful for you, our loyal readers and followers. Your creative spirit makes it a pleasure to come to work every day!
P.S. What are you thankful for? What's on your wish list? Leave your comments below. We'd love to read them!
