The Secret’s Out! Our New eMag Has Arrived

You may recall this blog post by Assistant Editor Pippa Eccles where she could not reveal the hush-hush purpose of a road trip we took down to New York, but did share photos of us eating junk food and driving down the highway rockin' to The Grateful Dead and The Black Eyed Peas.

It was hard to keep our mission a secret for so long, but now we can shout it from the rooftops: We were visiting artists like Melanie Testa and Beryl Taylor to shoot video for In Stitches, our new, interactive eMag which is available to you now. And let me tell you, this revolutionary digital magazine is even more fun to play with than it was to produce.

In Stitches combines everything you love about our print magazines with all the benefits of digital technology. Just download it to your computer and you have the best of both worlds: top art quilts and artists, inspiration and techniques, plus video demonstrations including free-motion quilting tutorials, community fun and play with our Challenge Yourself prompts, the ability to zoom in on the art and articles, slide-show galleries, even an art swap.

It's a magazine that comes to life!

Let me give you a little tour:

This first issue features Melanie and Beryl, plus: Leah Day, Kathy York, Wendy Feldberg, Jane LaFazio, Mary Fisher, Arlee Barr, Viv Sliwka, and Susan Brubaker Knapp

One of my favorite segments is the one where Melanie demonstrates her free-motion stitching warm-up techniques, using a practice sandwich and tracing paper. I also loved my visit with Beryl Taylor, where we tour her studio and she shows us her portfolio of embroidery stitches developed during her City & Guilds training.

Another fascinating feature is the one where we ask each of the participating artists:

  • Whose stitch work do you particularly admire/with whom would you like to take a stitching class?
  • What is your favorite type of stitching?
  • What is your must-have stitching tool or supply?
  • What is your number one stitch-related tip, trick, or technique?

The responses are revealing and insightful!

We had to wait to tell you about In Stitches, but the wait is over. Download this exciting eMag onto your computer and enjoy on or offline now!

  1. Congratulations on entering the digital magazine age! This is a great medium for inspiring our creativity. High quality digital images that can be enlarged; a simple hyperlink click reveals artist bios and portfolios, products info and additional tips; and iintegrated how-to video clips right in the article!

In addition to the navigational and search tools, the drop down Table of Contents menu lets you “hop” directly to the article you want. The “page down” feature (for articles of multiple pages) makes “thumbing” through the magazine articles a breeze.

Bottomline though is that the digital/interactive format supports your terrific content that inspires, demonstrates, and delights.

My compliments to your team for creating a true digital/interactive magazine — not just an electronic page turner version of a printed magazine (like other print magazines are doing).

I hope it’s a smash hit for Quilting Arts!
