First of all, the winner of last week’s giveaway is vlove1215. Please email me at lmurray@interweave.com and I will get you your fabric!
I had the pleasure of interviewing Lida Enche about her second fabric collection, Painted Summer, for In The Beginning Fabrics which will be available soon. The collection is full of the luscious, rich colors of a garden in full bloom and is taken directly from Lida’s original paintings. It's like viewing a gallery of fabric art.
LM: What inspires you when creating your fabric, namely your most current line?
LE: I find inspiration all around me - and it always seems to come from the natural world. It usually is connected with a moment that seems perfectly beautiful. I draw from those moments - think about why they seem so perfect - and let them inspire me while I paint.
LM: How long have you been designing fabrics?
LE: This is my second collection.
LM: What is your favorite part of the design process?
LE: I hand paint all of the designs that become fabric, am a painter at heart, and I love the process of painting.
LM: Any funny stories that go along with the design process?
LE: Much of the inspiration for my painting comes from a wonderful smell, which is connected to a beautiful moment. For example, I live by the beach and take a walk almost every night to see the water. When I turn down the street where I can see the beach and mountains, there is a house that has tons of lavender planted by the sidewalk. That incredible smell will forever be linked to the beauty of that landscape. Have you ever looked at beautiful fabric and had your mouth water? (I
have!) Well, I hope that when people look at my fabric, they can almost smell the lavender and salt air.
LM: What makes your fabric unique?
LE: The designs come from a painters perspective. The designs have soft lines and organic curves that I could not achieve if I was using a computer.
LM: What is your website/ how can people order your fabric?
LE: My website is www.lidaenche.com. People can order my fabric online (Just Google "Painted Summer" + "Lida Enche") or can purchase it at independent fabric stores. It will be available this Summer.
Thank you Lida!
