Our Latest Magazine and a Fabric Giveaway

11 Oct 2012

Most days, working at Quilting Arts Magazine is like being a kid in a candy store--if that kid is a quilter and the candy fabric, notions, and accessories, that is. Fabric, quilts, magazines, and books are our stock-in-trade.

We're giving away this Moda fabric.
Don't miss your chance to win it!
Recently, the Winter 2012/2013 issue of International Quilt Festival: Quilt Scene came in. It is full of beautiful quilts, fun projects, and more. Order it now and you won't have to wait for it to be on the newsstand!

One project, the Rolling Ball Table Runner by Brigitte Heitland, features a Moda fabric line Brigitte designed for Zen Chic called Juggling Summer. This is her premier collection for Moda, and it features a European flair and a fresh color palette. I especially love the variety of circles--they positively bounce!

We received six samples of Brigitte's fabric, graciously sent by Moda, to help us photograph the project for the magazine. Now that Quilt Scene has gone to press, we no longer need it. What are we going to do with all of this wonderful fabric? You guessed it, give it away to our readers!

Leave a comment on this blog and two lucky winners will be selected. Each will receive 1/2-yard pieces of these six fabrics. That's three yards of fabric! Be sure to leave your comment by October 15, 2012, at 9 a.m. EST. I will post the names of the winners later that day.

Good luck!

Kristine

WOW, at first glance I thought it was a landscape layout.  I had to take a closer look after putting on my glasses but thought it was buildings in a landscape setting.  Whoever set that fabric up for the photo shoot did a great job!  It would be great to see those fabrics done as a cityscape.

on 11 Oct 2012 1:45 PM

The geometry of these fabrics is very striking along with the luscious colors.  It would be fun to do a nature-related quilt with these fabrics since nature motifs are generally curved.  The straight lines would provide an interesting contrast with the curves of trees, flowers, water, etc.

Oh how I love the choices. I wanted to make a lap quilt for my ex-mother-in-law of 96 years of age. She recently went into hospice but then the Lord said "not yet" so she has been moved to a nursing home where she never wanted to go for as long as I can remember. Anyway her favorite color is purple, which I see is one of the colors. As soon as I saw it, I thought of Florence and the lap quilt I could make for her. She is in Green Bay, WI, where winters get might cold. It would be so great for her as along with the purple the other fabrics complimenting it, would add color and brightness to her room.

Well enough of a comment. Hope whoever wins, will enjoy. Happy Quilting

Those are such beautiful fabrics, in such a winsome combination.  I'm always amazed at the endless designs that are made into quilt fabrics.  At some point, you 'd think we would just say "Yup, we have now officially designed every kind of fabric design that can be designed",  but that just never happens.  Kudos.

I have been so straight in my color and pattern choices..stodgy is probably more the term! I am a very tailored person but lately I have been branching out and trying new colors and patterns. I am shocked how great they actually look once in a finished project! I have bought on sale for 1/2  price some fat quarters...5 in a bundle.. and I didn't like the colors but think.. just cause I dont like the colors, doesn't mean someone else won't like them! So what I do is make the pattern/quilt, get the talent and experience and then give the quilts to charity at my church. I still don't think I like the colors, but they end  up looking great. And knwo what I love looking at? Those stacks of fabrics like in your post....it is like looking at a candy store with the clear jars of jelly beans along the wall all color corrdinate and bright and cheery!

What is it about circles?  I am so attracted to them as design elements and just shapes.  I looked through my collection of quilts that I must do and about 3/4 of them contain circular shapes.  I am hooked on circles and their predecessor or off-shoot, spirals.  I guess they are elemental in our world.  I am going to teach the drunkard's path next month and we will see how many circles result from this.  This is truly a great collection of fabric with energy and spirit.
