I didn't sign my comments regarding my "great memories" relating to a wonderful smell that brings back those happy days of youth. As an eight or nine-year-old (I am now 76.) walking home at noon for lunch in the winter, it would be so cold and windy, I have to walk backward in order to stand up and to keep the cold air from my face. Upon opening the door I was greeted with the wonderful aroma of hot stew cooking on the stove and of so delicious cornbread Mother was just removing from the oven. As I was finishing, she would remove a fresh baked gingerbread from the oven and cut me a piece, butter it with real butter and give me an ice cold glass of milk. I don't know which was best--the wonderful smells or the eating as my mother was a terrific cook! I guess the eating, of course, but the aromas of those food dishes always bring back wonderful memories for me! Bonneyb

She would pour it out on buttered foil and we would all just sniff and keep walking by waiting for it to be cool enough to eat. YUMMY

My wonderful memory that is connected to smell is being a child in elementary school (I am now 76.) and walking home at noon for lunch in the winter and it being so cold and windy that I had to walk backwards to avoid the cold on my face. I would walk in the back door and Mother would have a pot of hot stew waiting on me, she would be taking a pan of hot cornbread out of the oven, and as I finished the stew, she would be taking out a hot pan of gingerbread and give me a big piece with hot lemon sauce. I will never forget those smells!
