Announcing the 'Changing Seasons' finalists

6 Aug 2014

In the June/July issue we challenged readers to create an 8" x 10" art quilt with the theme "Changing Seasons," reflecting on changing seasons in the world and in our lives. We received almost 100 entries and thank you all for contributing to this challenge. As always, you amaze us with your creativity!

Without further ado, here are the finalists:

Susan Bianchi, "Weathering the Storm"
Mary K. Hopkins, "Chickadee on the Queen Anne's Lace"
June Horwich, "Currents"
Indigo Kennedy, "And Sew it Goes"
Carol Kolf, "Butterfly Season"
Tracie L. Maryne, "Tree of Change"
Vickie Mathas, "Extending the Seasons"
Melissa Merriman, "Fall on the Water"
Claire Passmore, "Following the Swallows"
Susan Price, "Retired"
Iris Sonnenschein, "Seasonal Symphony"
Pat Train, "Vortex"

Congratulations to the finalists and thank you to all participants!  All finalists' quilts will be published, either on our website or in the December 2014/January 2015 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.

Next steps for finalists:

  • Please ship your artwork to us; it must be in our offices no later than August 29, 2014. Include a shipping and handling fee of $15 (U.S. and Canada) or $25 (all other international). This fee, which must be paid in U.S. dollars, covers the shipping costs, packing materials, and handling for the return of your entry. Only cash, checks, or money orders can be accepted. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Interweave. Include your return address inside the package.
  • Be sure your quilt is labeled on the reverse with your name, email address, and title of the quilt. Also on the reverse, label the top of the quilt (a temporary label is sufficient) so we orient it properly.
  • If you did not do so in your original submission, please include a statement (around 50 words) about your quilt--the "story" of it, not the materials used (unless they are intertwined). This can be emailed to klundblad@interweave.com (Subject: Changing Seasons statement) or sent in the package.
  • The entire piece and all of its packaging must weigh less than 3 lbs. and fit inside a standard shipping/mailing box or padded envelope for return shipment.

Finalists should mail their entries to:

Quilting Arts Magazine/Interweave
Attn: Changing Seasons Reader Challenge
490 Boston Post Road, Suite 15
Sudbury, MA 01776

Note: By submitting your reader challenge entry, you are authorizing F&W Media, Inc. to publish your project in upcoming publications and promotional materials, on our websites and in our other e-media, as well as to possibly display it at shows. F&W Media, Inc. will not be held responsible for loss or damage due to circumstances beyond our control.

We reserve the right to keep and display your "Changing Seasons" quilt until the week of Nov. 10, 2014.

If you have concerns or questions, please contact me at klundblad@interweave.com.

We look forward to seeing your work!
