In the June/July issue we challenged readers to create an 8" x 10" art quilt with the theme "Changing Seasons," reflecting on changing seasons in the world and in our lives. We received almost 100 entries and thank you all for contributing to this challenge. As always, you amaze us with your creativity!
Without further ado, here are the finalists:
Susan Bianchi, "Weathering the Storm"
Mary K. Hopkins, "Chickadee on the Queen Anne's Lace"
June Horwich, "Currents"
Indigo Kennedy, "And Sew it Goes"
Carol Kolf, "Butterfly Season"
Tracie L. Maryne, "Tree of Change"
Vickie Mathas, "Extending the Seasons"
Melissa Merriman, "Fall on the Water"
Claire Passmore, "Following the Swallows"
Susan Price, "Retired"
Iris Sonnenschein, "Seasonal Symphony"
Pat Train, "Vortex"
Congratulations to the finalists and thank you to all participants! All finalists' quilts will be published, either on our website or in the December 2014/January 2015 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.
Next steps for finalists:
- Please ship your artwork to us; it must be in our offices no later than August 29, 2014.
Include a shipping and handling fee of $15 (U.S. and Canada) or $25
(all other international). This fee, which must be paid in U.S. dollars,
covers the shipping costs, packing materials, and handling for the
return of your entry. Only cash, checks, or money orders can be
accepted. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Interweave. Include your return address inside the package.
- Be sure your quilt is labeled on the reverse with your name, email
address, and title of the quilt. Also on the reverse, label the top of
the quilt (a temporary label is sufficient) so we orient it properly.
- If you did not do so in your original submission, please include a
statement (around 50 words) about your quilt--the "story" of it, not the
materials used (unless they are intertwined). This can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org (Subject: Changing Seasons statement) or sent in the package.
- The entire piece and all of its packaging must weigh less than 3
lbs. and fit inside a standard shipping/mailing box or padded envelope
for return shipment.
Finalists should mail their entries to:
