Quilting Arts First Friday Giveaway

8 Apr 2011

It’s our first Friday in the new Quilting Arts offices in beautiful Sudbury, Massachusetts. We've had a busy and fun week unpacking, organizing, and of course, working diligently on the next issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.

Since we are so excited about our new location, we’ve decided to celebrate our very first Friday in Sudbury by giving away a SideWinder™ Portable Bobbin Winder to 10 lucky readers.

To win a SideWinder, leave me a brief comment describing your favorite Friday quilting activity--it could be anything--meeting up with other quilters, stopping by your favorite quilt shop for some new fabric, working in your studio.

I will announce the winners on Friday, April 15th. This giveaway has ended. Check back for future giveaways.

Have a great weekend!

-Ellen

Friday is Dyeday in my studio! I like to get fabrics, fibres and threads painted or dyed on a Friday so that, come Monday, I can start in on projects that need doing. If I haven't already done so on Saturday or Sunday.... ;-)

HI

My favorite Friday activity is my Third Friday of the month Critique Group. We bring current work and ask for what we need. Sometimes it is just feedback, sometimes it is a design question, what is or isn 't working. We talk art speak, try to understand art speak. And discuss each other progress.

I have been a member for almost a year, and I love it. I work so I can't go every month, that is why I love the 7-8 times a year when I can make it.

I'm getting ready right now to pack my stuff and get down to the nice quilt shop here in our little town of Tomball Texas. They offer 'open sew' all day on Fridays. Just love it,,some come in the morning, some come noonish and some of us get there after the work day. It's great,,we talk and laugh and have even dropped a tear or two. I hope everyone gets to have some time during the week to share with others and do their thing in quilting or craft of their choice. :)

My favorite quilting activity on a Friday would be actually having the time to sit down and do any quilting activity at all.  I love to look through quilting magazines and get inspired.  My favorite quilting activity is applique.  The idea that I can take flat fabric and turn into anything I want is just fascinating to me.  Suddenly from these squares I have flowers and leaves or any shape I desire.  Suddenly where there was once a blank square is a picture.  I love the process of creating something from nothing.

I like going to the fabric store and letting my senses get overwhelmed by all the colors, prints and textures.  Always good for inspiration and a quick pick me up (that doesn't cost or add pounds)!  ; ^)

Friday is rummage day! I try to repurpose fabric and other things like old buttons and jewelry into my work. So, my Friday morning schedule is to drop off the kiddo at school and go search all the garage sales and consignment shops in my area! As I drive, my imagination goes wild with my finds! Friday night is relax and sketch or rip up my finds for the projects I have in my mind. I LOVE Fridays!!!!!

I'm a homeschooling mom, so after a 4 days of teaching from books and worksheets we have instituted Friday Fun day, with computer learning activities, that allows me a day to work on sewing and other fiber arts.  So I'd have to say my favorite Friday is just being able to spend time in the sewing room, working on quilts I started at the beginning of the school year.   I figure even getting one day for both my daughter and I to enjoy the school day makes the rest of the week easier to deal with.  As a special treat after Easter, my daughter and I will be spending that day in the sewing room together as I teach her how to sew, starting with simple aprons, which I plan on teaching her how to make quilted pockets for them.
