I would like to make a quilt that is called hugs and kisses! It shows the x's and o's representing all the love that will keep someone warm! It's a beautiful pattern and would make a great gift to someone who can use the warmth!

I'd really like to make a tablerunner out of either but the entry said what kind of quilt so lap quilt it is. Infact, I think for me since the last few quilts and totes I have made, I gave away. :) I loved doing it but now I don't have one. :(  I made a tote for me out of paisley blue and white but ended up giving it away for a door prize for a banquet for the Pregnancy Crisis Center that a girl from church organized. I filled it with baby things for the door prize. Love doing these things and the more fabric the more ideas and giving. :)

I would be happy with either one of these bundles. I love the colours! I can picture something made for one of my granddaughters!

I would use a turning twenty pattern for quick and beautiful.  Bright and cheerful will show that someone is thought of and caring thoughts are sent their way.

"Yellow Brick Road" pattern would be a good choice for hurricane victims, so they know there's always a road that leads you back to home sweet home.

I would like to make a quilt to donate to the "Blanket for Vets" group that I belong to. Our group has been together for three years and we recently created our one thousandth afghan and quits.  Our blankets go to veterans in health care facilities and recently at Veterans Day programs.

Not exactly sure , like any quilter...I would need to touch the fabrics first....but possibly a Vanishing 9 Patch or some sort of Star quilt.

I think I'd go for a nice nine-patch. It is a fairly quick quilt to sew up, which is important, and the block is balanced, attractive, but has that comforting feel of a grandma quilt.

I like to do quilts with strips.  Not sure about the pattern, something simple.

not really a problem of not having enough fabric but in the case of fabric more is always better.  I would make a quilt with blocks made with curved piecing.  I love how they turn out and I love the irregularities of the pattern.

Since I have had to take an involuntary haitus from quilting I would choose a more simplistic pattern to jump back in, probably the Irish chain-style pattern I used for my very first quilt!

If I won the red Moda fabric I would make a star quilt that I saw on Missouri Quilt Company's you tube channel.  Big 25" blocks that go together really fast.  I just finished piecing one in blues for a Christmas gift so I know how fast it is to make and it looks amazing.   If I won the Stella I would have t see it in person before deciding what pattern to make but a Memory Chain pattern might work.

I live in Texas now, but I grew up in New York City.  I saw the story on Belle Harbor on 60 Minutes.  My parents used to take us visiting there when I was a teen.  My grandparents used to live in Far Rockaway, and we went to visit almost every weekend.  It breaks my heart to see the devastation there.  I would like to make a quilt to send to a family in the Rockaways in New York City from me and my Houston friends who grew up in New York to show that we haven't forgotten them.  I have an embroidery machine so I would embroider hearts as the quilting design.

I would give the 1st stack of fabric to my friend who is a new quilter.  She is amking quilts for orphans in Mexico.  These would make at least 10 quilts for baby orphans.  She would love these fabrics as she is just buying 2nd hand clothing and cutting them for the baby quilts.  There is nothing like a new stash of fabric to a new quilt maker.

I think Sandy survivors need bed-sized quilts and so would try to pull a queen-sized quilt out of this bundle. Design? So many good ones to chose from - I'd pick when I saw the fabrics. Also, isn't it weird how many people really didn't read what this give-away is all about?

I like the reds (bright and cheerful) and I like to do appliqued quilts. I would make a Joining Hearts appliqued quilt with your beautiful reds.

One of my ongoing projects is to make and donate baby quilts to the free medical clinic which provides free health care to anyone without health insurance. So naturally I thought; "Baby quilts would be most needed, and would be the vary thing to make from these fat quarters to donate to the victims of hurricane Sandy!".

There's such a large selection of fabric I believe I may be able to make at least 2, possibly 3 quilt tops. The babies and toddlers are the littlest victims and there will certainly be a great need there.

I believe I would stay with simple patchwork patterns, emphasize bright colors and contrast, then  stitch-in-the-ditch with a (soft yarn) log cabin tie down to finish, in order to make and send them as quickly as possible.

Even if I don't win the fabric I ask everyone to remember the children and infants, not only do they need warmth and comfort, but maybe some handmade stuffed animals...I'm sure there spirits would be lifted!

I would like to make a quilt that can be auctioned off to support a cat rescue that I volunteer for. It would be win/win.  Someone would get a beautiful hand-made quilt, and  the kitties would get help as well.

My hubby is currently on Long Island repairing the utilities to help get the residents there back in their homes with heat.  I think I'd do a quilt with stars to remind the residents there that there are clear skies after the storm.  Thanks for the offer for the free fabric to help out. :)  I know two people will do a great job with the two bundles.

I would make a Christmas quilt.  With gingerbread men appliques and Christmas fabric!  Christmas is by far my favorite holiday, and the quilt would be a great way to keep warm and toasty during the holidays.

I immediately "see" a happy/scrappy basket weave with one bundle and an offset trip around the world with the other (Eleanor Burns #3101 is fabulous!)

If I would win the fabric give away, in turn I would give the quilt away. I would put a sun in the L upper side corner to offer hope for new beginnings. It would over all be made of half square triangles, with blues around the sun and multi colored for the rest to represent all our interests in life.

I would let my girl scout troop select a design and teach them to make a quilt that we might donate for a raffle for hurricane victims.  It would be a quilt that expresses motion because the hurricane hit Long Island hard.  

I'd make a quilt with the brightest and coolist fabrics for one of my girls.  Of course, it looks like the fabrics are all bright, cool, or both!

I'm not sure what pattern I would pick as I need to be inspired by the actual fabric. I make kids quilts all year long for the NICU in my area so I am well experienced in making quilts to keep people warm and loved.

Since time is of the essence and I have Holiday projects to finish yet, I would put together a rail fence quilt, but would put it together as a rag type quilt...EZ...fast and warm!!!

A few weeks ago I presented one of my colleagues with a hand knitted throw.  She was going through a difficult time and I thought she could use something to cuddle up.  The joy on her face warmed my heart.  I want to d the same for others.   I live in NY and was blessed to only experience minor inconveniences from Super Storm Sandy.  So many people I know are displaced, lost homes and all their belongings.  We've been fund raising, gathering clothing, toiletries and food.  Making a quilt, lap, child or full size would bring joy to someone as my knitting did for my colleague.  At least they could have a bit to cuddle and know someone cares! BK in NYC.

I would make something modern/contemporary. Something that shows off the fabric rather than the pattern.

I would love to make a relatively simple quilt with lots of spaces for quilting, using a pattern of my own design that is a variation on a four-patch with sashing.  I am imagining hand-quilting it (don't worry, I'm an experienced embroiderer and hand-quilter so I am FAST and will get it finished within a deadline!) with wonderful messages of hope and positive thoughts to warm and brighten the spirits of  the family that gets it.  I save all of the positive quotes sent my way on Facebook so I have a few hundred thoughts to choose from!  :)

2. Try and maximize the fabric and mix them with a neutral and do a 9-patch or starwww.flickr.com/.../6888484609

3.  Try a modern quilt design like birds on a wire against a neutral background

I think it would definitely depend on which bundle was won!   The Stella prints are big and bold and cry for a quilt pattern that really gives you a look at each individual print ... maybe something like a Turning 20 pattern ... or the Galaxy Quilt ... or the Gimme Diamonds pattern?!  That would be fun!  The Moda set, on the other hand, is smaller and finer -- there's a fun Layer Cake QAL from Moose on the Porch Quilts, that I'd use if this was the one I received!  Both are great fun and would make a comfy, cozy quilt for someone in need!  :)

I'd make a quilt that looks pretty, yet is quick to make.  After all, those touched by Sandy need comfort now, not in 2 years!  

The double sliced layer cake from Missouri Star Quilting Company is the first to pop into my mind.  It looks best with lots of different fabrics, so either collection would work well.

Having lived on Long Island for 30 years; before I moved west, there are friends there who lost homes and cherished possesions.  What better way to help one who is still shocked at their losses and dealing with a multitude of problems; than to send them a gift made from the heart.

 A quilt is an American tradition that has endured through the ages.  Made and given with love. The blocks put together whether randomly or in a set pattern represent how we all come from diverse backgrounds. Once stitched together through the trials of life we are strong, warm and can survive even the toughest of times.

I would try to make small blankets for pets at rescue centers with the fabric. I am a newbie so this would be a crazy quilt .

I would like to make a log-cabin quilt.  I am new to quilting and have not yet attempted a full bed quilt.  Nor have I quite finished my hourglass table runner, but nearly there!  Log-cabin pattern is the first quilt my grandmother ever made, and she gave her first finished quilt to me.  It would be nice to follow her steps.

I would use the chillin flannel, without the flannel. It's a fast and easy quilt that I've made before. I'm already working on one for the Sandy survivors. Survivors sounds better than victims.

If I won, I would probably make a play quilt for my grandson. I is just been grandma for the first time today.

I've always felt that quilts become old friends. They make you feel safe from the world while providing comfort and warmth.  My quilt will be sent to a Hurricane Sandy victim who has nothing left after losing everything that belonged to them.  The design would be simple with comforting colors, something to call there own and to feel safe under.  These victims need a friend right now to help them get through the devastation.  A quilt would be like an extended hand to help them survive this horrible ordeal of loss and displacement.

With the Moda fabric I'd call it Strawberries and Chocolate as a reminder that there will be happier days ahead and make it up in a simple pattern.  

I would make a stacked stuff style of quilt.  The original pattern is by Tula Pink uses fat quarters, but can easily be modified to use other sizes of fabric.  Thank you!

These are beautiful fabrics .....I have a very large quilt top that is being long arm quilted right now so I can send it out to one of my son's coworkers in NYC that was affected by Big Sandy.    The local quilt shop  has some really cute patterns that look like postcards (Villa Rosa Designs) that would be quick and easy......they turn out super cute with the new fabrics out there!  The Stella fabrics would be fun to see in one of those patterns.

My heart has been aching for the people affected by Sandy, and as I work and have a lot of time restraints - and given I couldn't travel to NJ to be on site - I've been wondering what I could do to help. I have somewhat limited quilting skills, so making a large block quilt would be a great idea. The quilt would comfort them, keep them warm, and would be a reminder to the recipient that people care about them and their dire situation.

I have friends with family members still trying to piece their lives together, homes severely damaged by Hurrican Sandy.  I wouldn't make a log cabin or "house" quilt - or a nautical quilt - as that would be a painful reminder.  I would, however, make a quilt with heart blocks - to convey the depth of compassion that we all feel for them.

There are a couple of quilts I love making and giving and one is a Sawtooth Star.  When I think about which quilt to make for Sandy survivors, I'd like something fast but something detailed enough to let them know that someone really took time to make something special for them.  I can't imagine losing everything like that, or how blessed I would feel that someone made something special for me in that time.  

I'd like to make a Sawtooth Star quilt...it's my favorite block and it's quick and easy to piece but has a lot of visual appeal.  What a blessing it is to be able to offer some small measure of comfort in such devastating times.

I would make a quilt using basket blocks. To me, baskets symbolize abundance and joy overflowing. I believe that good always comes from misfortune, if one just keeps believing.

I would make a quick but charming quilt with a stacking method. I just got an e-pattern for one from Martingale that would work up quickly! I have one quilt that needs bound and sent and would love to make another. I know how trying it is to have the power out for an evening. I can only imagine the difficulties of having the power out for weeks!

I would make a very colorful strip quilt for a "Sandy" victim.  I am going to attend a Quilting Retreat the first weekend in December and would make this my retreat project.

What a wonderful idea to help with fabric. It's so nice that so many quilters have come together to make quilts for Sandy victims. I would use contrasting colors with the log cabin pattern because there is little waste when cutting strips.

How about a fun disappearing nine-patch, using fabrics in your bundle along with  quality fabrics from my stash?

I'm waiting for some fabric to arrive to finish a Hurricane Sandy quilt I have started. I went through my stash of UFO's and fabrics and started pulling. Wow! what a pile! I chose to make an X block quilt with a new ruler I bought. I have to remind myself to make something simple, it doesn't need to be show quality, but warm, clean and comforting. I'm thinking something that could be strip pieced and get you off and running would be a good choice. I am kind of limited size-wise, as it is difficult to personally machine quilt anything larger than a twin.

I've been working on a scrappy quilt to donate to victims of Hurricane Sandy and looking at these fabrics just triggers more ideas for another quilt. I think a Friendship Star pattern would be appropriate. If I win one of these lovely bundles you can be sure someone else would receive a warm, cozy treasure to share our friendship.

I would make a quilt that was made with lots of TLC in hopes that it will flow over to the person that receives it.  Sometimes the more simple patterns make the nicer quilts.  Need to see the fabrics in order to decide what to do.  Quilts are always a joy to make, even the most difficult.

I'm not certain of the name of the pattern but I would get family and friends to write words of good wishes and incorporate it into the quilt.  Everytime they looked at it they know there are people out here that cares.

I love scrappy quilts and would do a 6" finished sq. size of half square triangles, mixing fabrics and colors. Love your fabrics and would like to share them with a Sandy survivor.

I live on Long Island and see first hand the devastation left by Sandy in my neighborhood. Several friends have lost their homes-I was lucky. I would love to use this fabric to make a quilt, probably a friendship star, to give to a friend whose house was flooded and is uninhabitable. Thanks for helping.

I would make a modern quilt with tumblers of colors.  That's what I see from the bundle on the left--a colorful, warm and cozy quilt to cheer someone who needs support after all they've been through with Hurricane Sandy.

I'd quilt it with Leah Day's free motion "Matrix" quilting pattern on a 2-3" scale so the quilt could be finished quickly and would still be very soft and cuddly.  I'd hope that the recipient would know that every stitch represents a good wish for Hurricane Sandy victims to get their lives back together quickly.

I have batting on hand and would use a Joann Fabrics coupon to buy a fun fabric for the back.  

(I'm not sure what that bundle is on the right--I've never seen that kind of precut package.  I guess I'm behind the times!)

When my husband was a teen,he lost his home and everything in it in the flood of '72 caused by Agnes...there was no one to donate quilts,he had to shift around among strangers and family for a place to lay his head at night,he lost all trust,all hope,he had no comfort,he got sick from the shots they had to take for the contaminated water,and that were supposed to keep him well..he has never forgotten...I want to make a quilt for a child that is hurt,and angry and confused so they know they are loved,and it will get better...and tho things may never be the same again,it will be a new normal,and it will be okay <3

You have a great idea.  Making a quilt is something to make for the victims coming from the heart.

It was through New York that  my Mother came when she was a young girl as an immigrant to this country. She lived  those first few months in New Jersey with her relatives. I would hear stories about the seashore and waterfront of these two states and her first glimpses of this wonderful country. It is to New Jersey that we would travel when I was a child to visit her family. It is sad to think that her wonderful states have been hurt by these waters and winds. She has been gone for a few years now and most of the family that was there is also gone but thier decendants still live in this once vibrant area.I would make a quilt called "Then and Now" . Using the elements of water and wind and the promise of renewal. The people of this area are so resilient that I know good things will come from this tragedy.

just found this site, I think its great what u r doing.. I would like the fabric of course, but more important is , if u have a name or a shelter s name and address wher I can  donate clothes and goods to some old homeless lady that lost everything in the fires in NY. I need to check, but I think I already have a quilt top that I can finish and send or even hand deliver. We have family in NY that most likely can help as well.

I would make a log cabin large lap quilt and donate to the Sandy relief effort. The log cabin symbolizes hearth and home and I think would give love and hope to the recipient.

If I we're the lucky one  I would make a quilt as you go quilt because it would go quickly and I am just a beginning quilter.  I would make a lap quilt that would be comfy and colorful.

I'd love to do a simple 9 patch, I'm a very experienced seamstress but new to quilting so I'd do a simple pattern and maybe add some machine embroidery.

I live right here in the area of some of the worst  damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. I have a dear friend and her home on the water was flooded.. I would love to have the fabric and make her a 9 patch quilt. Not so much to memorialize the hurricane but to provide a remembrance as she stayed with me this past week as she worked tirelessly on repairs in her home. We are both breast cancer survivors and friends since childhood.

I would love to use the multicolor pack to make a Chinese Coins quilt, with one of my "asian" fabrics for the sashing and borders.  I quilt for Project Linus locally.

I would  do the Bali hearts quilt signifying the love felt for all the victims of superstorm Sandy.  (The red/brown) bundle would look the nicest for that design.  I already have the backing material ready!  It would be an immediate project so it would be in time for Xmas delivery to the Sandy victims.

I would make quilts for kids.  I do this now for kids in emergency care due to violence.  Kids need something to hang on to that is theirs.  Any sign of security is a blessing

I have many fond memories of summers spent at Seaside Heights, even falling in love for the first time "under the boardwalk".  I would like to make a quilt that would incorporate the colorsof the shore... The tan of the sand, blues and greens of the ocean, the sky and the bright lights of the rides and game wheels.

New quilter, not sure what exact pattern I'd make, definitely a bed-sized quilt, with very warm batting and probably a soft, warm flannel back. Just the right thing to snuggle up in on a cold NE night.

It appears the bundle on the right is of 10" squares. I have been wanting to make a quilt out of a layer cake that I say demonstrated on a U-tube video. I looks quick and easy and I could get it shipped off to the Sandy victims quickly.

I love playing with new fabrics.  It really gets my creative juices flowing.  I have designed a quilt for my jr. hi sewing students using strips and not matching seams.  It is the perfect pattern for learning about color interplay.  I would love to make as many as I can for the victims of Sandy.

Im suffering with major depression and am going to a rehabilitation center for 2 months  in the hopes of escaping this terrible dark place I've been living in for two years now. I've done everything I've been directed to do by every doctor ive seen yet I continue to spiril downwards.  I've even lost the will to quilt now. I don't feel very creative lately but I'd like to just pick up a new mag and make the first quilt top that catches my eye.  Then I can hand quilt it while Im in hospital.   Maybe when Im better and ready to go home, my quilt will be ready too.  

Square blocks are best for me, you can make different designs with them and they  are pretty.

If I were to win the fabric, I would join a quilting guild that is nearby and make my first quilt!  I've always wanted to make one and have lots of books describing those I would make.

My favorite pattern right now is a free form log cabin.  I think it would be appropriate for the Sandy survivors.  I have been having fun with these, as I can choose whatever I want from my stash.  Of course, an influx of new color is always appreciated, especially the Modas.

I'd make a few crib quilts, with a comfy flannel backing, probably in log cabin or fence rail. Then I'd do a couple of stuffed animals to coordinate with each quilt so they would get something practical and something fun. I think it's important to send something a child can play with since they may have lost all their toys.

I'd want to wait to see and feel the fabric before deciding which pattern to do. The toys would probably be fleece or flannel but would include a piece of the quilt fabric somehow.

I would make a very simple striped quilt, with a male recipient in mind.  We had flooding in our area in September 2011, with many people losing homes and all but the clothes they were wearing.  In these situations, calls for comfort items are often made on behalf of children;requests for adults (and men in particular) are more likely to focus on necessities, rather than comfort items, even though they may need them just as badly as the children.

I can definitely guarantee the quilt would be an original design. I love lines and angles and geometric designs. love to create quilts without patterns for a true one-of-a-kind quilt. But most of all I love to have the opportunity to volunteer my time and talents for as long as life allows.

Thank you Michelle for the offer and the reminder that there are so many along the eastern seaboard who, as winter approaches, need many ways to be warm.  I concur with one comment I read about being puzzled that some missed the point that the invitation is to make a quilt for a survivor of Hurricane Sandy, not one's own family member.  However, I hope whomever receives the bundles creates wonderful quilts with them.  Your invitation has prompted me to make a quilt from fabrics I already have on hand and I'll begin tomorrow.  

Will your post on Nov. 19th indicate where we can send our "Sandy" quilts?

I live in Westchester County NY, north of NYC.  I was born and raised in Queens not far from the Rockaways.  It is heartbreaking to see the devastation wrecked on the beaches I went to as a child.  I would like to make a Disappearing 4 Patch for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

What a nice icea.   I would pick a simple pattern so I could make it in a short amount of time to help the people affected by Sandy.  I am in NJ and see the devastation first hand.  

I've never made a quilt for charity but I would absolutely love the opportunity! I'd make something simple yet beautiful and very usable!

Wow the Dear Stella line is perfect for those on the east coast.  I would make a nice log cabin design with alternating single blocks.  I believe that a flannel or fleece backing would be best as the temps are very cold now in NY, NJ, and PA.  Your gift of fabric is very generous and I'm sure no matter what type of quilts that are made from it they will be greatly appreciated.

To make a quilt for Sandy victims quickly, I would make a simple charm quilt, 5 inch squares sewn together. I might add some fabric from my stash or blocks from my ample collection of UFOs, and I'd back it with flannel to keep someone cozy and warm.

If I won the standing fabric with the red colours, I would make a sunset quilt to show that the sun has set on Sandy. It would be a happy and lively quilt to denote the courage and determination of the survivors but also an ode to those people and possessions that didn't make it through.

I would make an old fashion patchwork Quilt. I would embroidery some inspirational quotes and/or simply embroidery LOVE, FAITH & HOPE.

Sunshine and Shadows would be my choice.  Sending sunshine in the form of a quilt as the receiver emerges from the shadow that was Hurricane Sandy, with hugs from someone who has lived the experience in Florida.

As a mainlander and Pieceful Shores guild member in Manahawkin, NJ  I know how much our guild ladies on LBI have given to others in need in the past. Now they are on the receiving end and the feeling is strange to be receiving rather than giving.  Thank you to all who are thinking of doing something for them. Until clean-up and replacement is complete, they will be without homes for a some time to come.

These 2 fabric packs bring to mind 2 very different quilts. The one on the left would be great for a child, or a teen: lots of bright colors, with more neutral & dark pieces to provide spaces for the eyes to rest, & to create more contrast to help the brights pop. The one on the right is more staid: bringing to mind the lush velvets of Victorian items, perfect for a more mature woman, perhaps to replace an heirloom piece, or to cheer up an anniversary. My heart breaks to think of the children who have lost their homes. I would make at least a couple quilts in a fairly simple but cheerful pattern, perhaps Crayon Box, to bring some warmth, love and reassurance to some kids affected by the devastation. I have a variety of colorful flannel pieces at home that would make cozy backs for the quilts too! I've been making and gifting (and donating) blankets and quilts for babies and young children for years and would love this opportunity to help Sandy victims with either collection of this beautiful cloth.

My son and grand children live in N J and were affected by Sandy. Well, I am a beginner quilter. As a matter of fact, my quilting education is growing thanks to Quilting Daily.  It is so exciting to learn a new craft. My files with examples and instructions has so many ideas for projects. My first will be a baby quilt with stacked coins in a modern style.
