Chatting with my Fellow Fabric Shoppers in San Francisco

26 Jul 2010

Few things exciting me more than stumbling upon a glorious fabric store--so when I realized I was staying less than a block away from Britex Fabrics on my recent trip to San Francisco, I could hardly contain my joy. This four-story fabric haven is filled to the brim with beautiful and unique finds. But just as intriguing as the fabrics is the wide variety of customers who flock to Britex, so I decided to chat with a few of my fellow fabric shoppers to see what they were planning on making with their newly purchased goods--from bathing suits to bridal gowns, I got nothing but interesting responses!

And here's a little more eye candy for you...

A small section of the button wall:

Mel's beautiful crazy quilt (does anyone recognize the stitches from Quilting Arts first issue?):

And my purchase of the day: a silk-cotton blend with a multi-colored apple print. Too yummy to resist...

Have you ever happened upon a wonderful fabric store while traveling?

Yes on the Sedona, AZ shop - they have a separate gallery that's inspiring. SF Britex is pretty fab and hard to beat...the button level? OMG, double OMG. May I add The Cotton Ball is Morro Bay, CA? and Quilter's Paradise in Clovis, CA?  I think we fabriholics most appreciate getting away from the big box fabric chain stores that are clones no matter what city you are in.  Independent fabric retailers have eclectic collections. YUM. Worth the extra price per yd.

The photos are so appealing. But the video... message says it's a private video and doesn't play? I'm confused.

Hi Quilnan,

I had some technical difficulties when I first put this up but the video should be working now. Let me know if you still have problems!

Hi Pippa-we were away, so I just returned and tried viewing this. Still a glitch apparently as I can't watch it. It still says "Private video".
