My 1st QA Community Giveaway!

2 May 2009

It is so thrilling to see so many people joining our QA Community. I hope you are finding your way around successfully, posting in the forums, and enjoying the various features of this site!

We want to make this community the fun and engaging place for art quilters and fiber artists to network, share ideas, and grow as artists. To that end, we would love for you to branch out of lurkdom and share your thoughts in the forums; decorate and load your home pages with pictures, announcements, and friends; and post your artwork in the photo galleries (just be sure to tag your photos with your name so you create your own gallery page).

We would also love for this community to grow, and as a little incentive, I am raffling off ten SideWinder Bobbin Winder by Wrights , each with a bag of my own hand-dyed, screen-printed fabrics to QA members who get a friend to join the community. These SideWinder Bobbin Winder by Wrights are pretty nifty!  With this portable little gadget, there's no need to unthread your machine to load a bobbin with thread, saving loads of time and aggravation.

You can up your chances of winning a Sidewinder and bag of colorful fabrics by inviting more friends. (So for example if you invite three friends and all three join, I'll enter your name three times into the raffle.) Just let me know in the comments area for this blog entry the QA community user name(s) of the person(s) you got to join, and I'll take care of the rest!

I also want to honor members who are participating in the community (posting photos, messages to the forums, comments to pictures, building out your home pages, etc.) so if you leave a comment in this blog entry letting me know what you've been up to around here, I'll include your name, too!

I will announce the 10 winners Tuesday, May 5th at 5:00 EDT.

Thank you for helping us spread the Quilting Arts love and making this a quality community!

This is a terrific site!  While browsing around I posted a few photos, hooked up with some friends and checked out some of the workshop previews.   I look forward to becoming an active member in what is sure to become the "go to" place for connecting with other fiber and mixed media enthusiasts!

Saw your post on twitter!  Looks like a great site!  I will spread the news in all my online quilting forums!

I've been a fan of Quilting Arts for several years and am so happy for an interactive experience with you very gifted and blessed people!

I still have to post photos, etc. but I have invited Anne Copeland, Roberta Ranney and several others - those two are for sure signed in.

I wish all those with out photos would have names we could associate them with from QA list!

I'm visiting New York City and stopped in at The City Quilter on W.25th and 7th.  Picked up some fun NYC themed fabrics.

Quilting Arts is great to be connected with - wishing the best to the whole team.

Thanks Pokey.  Love the giveaways and the new site.  I have added my info and become a member.  Photos to follow and I still have to figure out how to build out my home page?  Hope you are having an awesome day.

LOL - I'm guilty of lurkdom but I have posted comments in the Readers Challenge pics.  I'm very excited about the new site that I may creep out from under my rock - I mean Bernina:)

Oh yeah - I saw your post on Twitter - but I guess that's a lurker activity too.  Old habits will be hard to break:)

I uploaded some photos to the gallery this morning and am excited to see such a cool thing on the site!  I love seeing what others are up to.  It's a great  place to get your stuff out there when you haven't gotten the courage to submit work for publication!  Thanks for thinking of such a cool idea!

This is my first blog ever.  Your 2010 calendar challenge was my first out of state challenge.  I kind of missed the last line of the rules on that one.  So I did a fresh picked puppy.   But I enjoyed it so I will try again reading all the rules next time.  *smile*

I look forward to seeing what this new blog world is all about.

I have enjoyed your videos getting ready for the "PROM".  Our daughters called your shopping emporium "Sally Ann's"   when they were in College.  I am looking forward to reading and seeing the photos.

This is a terrific site and very easy to use. I have already posted some photos on my profile and in the gallery. I have also looked through the forum and really like the one where you can post your quilts and get feedback on it. Fantastic! I have not gotten anyone to join yet but I am working on that.

I am really excited by your magazine and now we have a community too!

I have been an avid reader since I stumbled over your magazine in 2008. While I'll still enjoy every issue, I will take advantage of this wonderful site on a daily basis.

Thanks!

I enjoy every time I open my new mail and there is a post from Quilting Arts.  I like to relax from teaching preschool with fabric, fiber and crafts for all ages.  I discovered your refreshing ideas and attitude while watching or local Public Television station.  Thanks.  Rose Kelly in Indiana

I'm a new quilter and just finished my first art quilt. I love the magazine and the TV show and had fun at a Make It University class in Chicago. This website is icing on the cake and I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time here. I've looked at the pictures and read some forum entries and am looking forward to participating in the coming days. I've been getting the magazine for about 3 years and the ideas I've gotten have paid off ... I entered my first quilt in the local quilt guild show this weekend and won 1st place in the Art Quilt category!!

on 3 May 2009 11:31 AM

I have had a wonderful time already:)  I've posted a few pictures, requested advice on an art portrait and made new friends.  I've learned so much in just a few short days.  Thanks for the great site!  Jennifer Morlock

I uploaded my artwork for my avatar but I haven't completed my bio yet - I'm going to follow you're example and write one in word and copy it over.  So yes I've reviewed the videos on how to set up your profile, invite friends, etc... and I've sent a friend request to my artpal who is just beginning her page also. I introduced myself over in the forum area too.  Testing the waters, sticking my toe in and getting it wet! Think I'll go spread the word now on this great site... :-)

I absolutely love the new website, and have posted a photo in the gallery.... I have loved your magazine since you first started publishing (and our local PBS station has just started carrying your TV show -- yippee!), but now I am looking forward to being a part of the community myself.

Wow, I'm so excited.  Love the magazines and I'm ready to jump in to the community!  I'm new to blogging and just started my first one so I was excited to sign up, sign in my new web sites and even put on my first avatar in the QA Community!  Lot of firsts today, so as I head off to bed, I'm looking forward to getting more involved in the community tomorrow!

Love the new Quilting Arts community! I recently subscribed to the digital edition of Quilting Arts (& Cloth, Paper, Scissors) because I live in Costa Rica and it is difficult to have mny magazines delivered here.

Am inviting several friends to join.

Oh, thank you thank you for this wonderful new community.  And I already have a "friend" although I'm not smart enough to know what that means.  LOL.  My friend, Connie Wining just told me that she joined the site this afternoon.

Thank you for all the hard work that you must have gone through to get this up and running.

my art pal flutterbugartgirl said to check this out. now i have subscribed to both QA and CPS since they started and have always done the happy dance for my  online art buds when they get published. it takes art  making risk taking guts and tenacity to jump in...aloha ,sonja .

ps don't need more fabric but a sidewinder would be a great help to a senior artist gal like me!

I just signed up for the new site, it's amazing. I just had my morning coffee while viewing all the "Fresh Picked"  finalists and I am so inspired on this rainy day just perfect for creating.  I plan to subscribe to the blogs as they really supplement the magazine. I have every copy ever printed (eBay) and plan to keep them all.  I don't have the time to join groups outside of my home just now, but I can certainly have coffee in the morning and catch some inspiration; share my work; and be a part of a creative community - Yea!!!

Thank you for this opportunity...Linda A.

I posted a photo of my studio yesterday and finally got my bio page done.  I can only get in here a few minutes at a time right now so I am finding my way around slowly.  Love to see all the work people are submitting.  Show and tell has always been my favorite part of guild meetings.  Now I can see it anytime of the day or night.  YEA!  This is fun!

Hello, Pokey, I visited and commented on a few of the Rock On(?) Challenge Finalist quilts.  They are ALL wonderful!  And I reTweeted a few of your posts on Twitter, @LLAbbott.

Have so enjoyed your show, and it's great to finally see a site for QAs

Love what you've done with the site.  I am enjoying the interaction and community feeling.  I've been making some friends and checking everything out.  I helped (I hope) to spread the word through a post on my blog too.
