Pokey's Take: International Quilt Market

2 Nov 2010

Hard to believe Quilt Market has come and gone already and the eve of International Quilt Festival is upon us!

As I’m running around like a crazy woman getting everything ready for Festival and Make It University!, I’ll keep this brief.

I met Ty Pennington…

If you’re asking me if he’s just as charismatic in person as on TV (I’ve been asked about 100 times so far), the answer is yes. Very creative, smart, arty, and has a new line of his own fabrics coming out with Westminster Fibers…PLUS we have something planned for him as well. (More on that later!)

Saw some cool gadgets on the show floor, too:

Want to turn your fabrics into buttons?

And HandiQuilter has a fabulous new sit down machine that has an LCD touch screen. Video is a little tough to hear, but it’s so easy to quilt with this machine, and great for mid-to-large art quilts!

I met two super cute Australian women and asked them for their thoughts on the show. (At one point in the video you’ll here me say “I’m copying you, Kathy.” Kathy Mack of Pink Chalk Studio had just taken a FLIP video of them when I snagged them afterwards. (Kathy will have a ton of videos for Market, and I’ll post that link when it’s ready.)

And Mary Fisher has a new exhibit and stopped by to say hello. I adore her…

Want more in-depth reporting on Quilt Market? Run over to Susan Brubaker Knapp’s blog and check out the last few entries.

OK, off to make myself presentable for the IQA ceremony tonight where we’ll be debuting Quilt Scene. Let the fun continue…

I've been drooling over the Sweet Sixteen mid-arms for some time now.  Someday!

How fun to meet Ty!  I wish I had half of his energy.  Can't wait to see his fabric designs.  Do they have tools on them?
