I decided in my new house that I was brave enough to hang my own art instead of buying wall pieces. So I placed a 36 inch wooden rod on the side wall near my fireplace. As soon as I finish an "art quilt" piece, I hang it there to view, and critique it. I love being able to see new designs as I continue to grow in my work. When I look at the display - I sometimes feel the need to take it down to add that little something extra. I just used to roll up the pieces and stick them in a closet. Now, I have moved to a new level by learning to appreciate my own work - instead of thinking it's not good enough.

I have just finished my journal quilt and am waiting to see if it will be accepted or not. I am working on several shop samples for classes, finishing very late Passover postcards!, doing City and Guilds exercises, and hoping to make myself some clothes with lots of embellishments and machine embroidery.

I am so happy to find this blog...I adore your magazine and have had my local library subscribe so I can share it with many folks that I visit with at story hour... several months ago i was diagnosed with *** cancer and have been overwhelmed and emotional to say the least...but for now the kids (3 of them) are at my in-laws for the week and i'm working on a wall hanging...silk paper or silk fusion is my first step...check it out! I'm struggling a bit on how to dye the silk velvet I got some dy-na-flo and will play a bit tonight...can i use that on silk organza too? oh to avoid buying too many more supplies...the dilemma of a hoarder of art supplies...*giggle* http://happyhousequilts.blogspot.com/2008/07/silk-fusion-explorationjust-pics-for.html As an art therapist I know that this is part of my medicine...healing arts is a powerful thing...thanks for inspiring my creative spirit with your wonderful magazine! I've done some sketches and auditioned fabrics for the 2010 calendar challenge. Really enjoyed the 2009 challenge, though I thought I was a bit out of my league among all the outstanding artists in QA. I felt I had a worthy entry and will try again. Pokey, when do we hear about the Going Green challenge?

I have been working on two wall hangings to go in our new house. But the past couple of weeks I have not been able to work on them as much as I would like because of all the packing I am trying to get done. I'm working on a handbag...one side will have a quilted, appliqued gingham dog and the other side will have a quilted, appliqued calico cat...dog side will read "The gingham dog.." and the cat side will read "and the calico cat, side by side on the table sat..." Right now I'm trying to figure out how to finish the raw edges of the appliques before I attach them to the purse. All I can come up with is beads. Any suggestions?

I am busy getting ready for The Enchanted Doll Artists Conference in Albuquerque, NM in 3 weeks. I have a doll (a dragonfly)for an auction in progress (pictures on my blog) which has wire, painted silk, beading, soft-sculpture and will have clothes and a hat before I'm done.
