A friend of mine Mary Fisher frequently goes to Africa as part of a program to teach women who are HIV positive how to make bracelets that are sold at Macy's. These women are getting 100% of the profits from the bracelets they have made. Have you heard of the Oprah bracelet? That's what Mary has spearheaded. Check out her website to learn more information and good luck! http://www.maryfisher.com/bracelets_main.htm

Africa in June
to teach quilting skills so the women of a very remote and poor area are able to support themselves. I am very interested in teaching embellishments along with quilting as they have such a rich history. We will be working with the Venda tribe. Any help you could give me would be wonderful.

I am being introduced to products and techniques and am looking forward to trying out both. I have been quilting for several years and am happiest when I am creating something without a pattern and letting the quilt create itself. I am looking forward to breaking away from the commercial fabric and begin the quilting process from hand dyed or painted fabric. I would welcome any advice on branching out into that area. Thanks for a great magazine.

ONE DAY I BEGAN TO LAY OUT 3 SHEER LAYERS OF RANDOM COLORED STAPLES OF MERINO WOOL BLENDED WITH ANGELINA FIBERS ON TO A WASH AWAY FUSIABLE WEBBING (7X7. I THEN TOOK LAMBS TAIL (NOVELTY FIBERS) AND BEGAN TO SNIP THE ENDS OF THE FIBERS ALOWING THEM TO FALL WHERE THEY MAY. THEN TAKE WISPS OF THE WOOL STAPLES TO ENTRAP THE FIBERS (REMEMBER) GO LIGHTLY WITH THE WISPS ITS PURPOSES IS TO ENTRAP THE FIBERS NOT OBSCURE THEM. WHEN FINISHED WITH THIS PROCESS BEGIN TO NEEDLE FELT BY HAND OR MACHINE, WASH AWAY WEBBING. NOW THAT YOUR PIECE IS FELTED TAKE A WINDOWED CARD STOCK AND USE THE WINDOW AS A VIEW FINDER TO DISCOVER AN IMMAGINED LANDSCAPE. DO YOU SEE A RIVER, MOUNTAIN, ROLLING HILLS, FIELD OF FLOWERS ETC YOUR EYE WILL LEAD YOU TO THE MAGIC. NOW THAT YOU HAVE DETERMINED WHAT YOU LIKE YOU CAN CUT THE SELECTION OUT REMEMBER LARGER THAN THE CARDS WINDOW AND MOUNT WITH YOUR CHOICE OF ADHESIVE. (I HAVE MOUNTED MY SOME OF MY WORK ON REFLECTIVE PAPER AND COLORED PAPER, THEN ATTACH TO THE WINDOWED CARD STOCK. I PERFER HAND MADE PAPERS THIS GAVE THE PIECE ADDED DEMENSION ALONG WITH ADDED CHARMS BUTTONS ETC. PS. SOME TIMES I THINK OF A PLACE AND ITS COLOR PALETTE AND I USE THIS PROCESS AND IT WILL APPEAR IN AN ABSTRACT WAY. DEPENDING ON THE WINDOW SIZE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CREATE A FEW CARDS

Love the website and creative information! I'm exploring various mediums for my art quilting and many ideas are formimg as a result of your magazines. I just recently subscribed and am anxiously waiting for the next issues. In the meantime, I'd like to know if anyone has found a good source for purchasing metrosome or mettler thread? And of course, I'd love some freebies.

All the Best! Kate

Hoping to enter challenges if pinched nerve will allow. I've been collecting "stuff" for years, sewing for over 50(yikes!!) and want to do some more artistic things. Large stash of fabric, beads, threads, just got Lutradur and Oliver Twists Experimental packs in 2 colors as well as dyed cocoons. Think I may have to order all the back issues of CPS, I have all QA issues and love going back to look at them. I'm mostly a lurker on the QA list but love reading all the posts. Wish I had known about this when the freebies were flowing! Great job, Pokey!
