Then Andrea Bishop returns to demonstrate the symmetry tool; software and your computer can be a real time saver. Then we’ve invited Shelly Stokes back. She’ll teach us to “see’ the design elements in your fabric or quilt so that they can be easily repeated with freezer paper stencils and paint sticks. Then Sue Hausmann's lesson is all about frame quilting.

Perhaps one of the most exciting additions to the quilting market has been paints and dyes. We’ve opened the door to dyeing our own fabrics; creating one of a kind hand painted looks and added a whole new dimension of surface embellishment. First, learn how to over-dye fabric to make original designs. Then join Shelly Stokes for a demonstration on how to blend colors when stenciling images on your fabric. Then Jane Davila demonstrates a traditional Japanese printing technique called “gyotaku” using rubber replica fish and also discusses various methods of printing from nature. Last, on our machine basics lesson, Sue Hausmann shows us quilting with yarn.

Next Beth Wheeler creates an artists canvas with a kaleidoscope image. Then meet Marinda Stewart for a demonstration of fusing on paper with liquid thread and crystals. Quilting’s origin, in the use of scraps from clothing is the “original” green concept. In quilting today, this trend also manifests itself in different ways from recycling, to green products like bamboo batting, and even quilts with a green message. First is a delicious way to recycle by using the foil wrappers from chocolates to embellish cloths. Then Leslie Rego takes us on a fun, “flower power” journey through the sixties while we learn to fuse a large and striking floral design. Next, Susan Lucky Shie has a tutorial on air brushing with an emphasis on writing. Last up is tying a quilt using bar tacking over bows and yarn with Sue Hausmann.

205 Thread is the Focus

The hallmark of contemporary quilting is the use of thread in a new way. Instead of being content to only use thread as a way to quilt pieces of fabric or stitch on an applique, today's quilter uses thread as its own feature to the surface of their work. Heidi Lund demonstrates free-motion dimensional leaves using thread, fabric, and water-soluble stabilizer. Pokey Bolton has an easy trick for thread painting by first printing images in organza. Joyce Drexler shows a free-motion thread painting, and Sue Hausmann uses software to add stippling to her quilt.
