Quilting Arts celebrates the way artists are taking a contemporary approach to quilting by blending their passion for various textile arts. Valori Wells opens this episode with a mixed-media shadow box, combining freeform strip piecing, knitting, and beading to create a truly unique piece. Next is Malka Dubrawsky, who offers suggestions for piecing improvisationally with her “Ten Ways to Love Improvisation.” She also demonstrates how to create simple, modern, and energetic quilt blocks without templates or other measuring tools, and how to transform them into a potholder and trivet set.  Finally, Julie Fei Fan Balzer uses software to create contemporary fabric beads, perfect for necklaces and other jewelry.
