2 May 2014

Welcome to Free Fabric Friday! This week, I have a stack of fat quarters from the Garden Party line by Windham Fabrics. The deeply colored solids complement the florals and geometrics beautifully.

I could see these fabrics turned into a pretty lap quilt to use on the porch on cool evenings, a pretty pillow, or as a festive table runner for a graduation party or bridal shower.

What would you do with these fabrics? Leave a comment below, and one of you will be chosen at random on Monday May 5, 2014 as the winner.

Good luck and happy quilting!

This is silly, but I absolutely love the colors of these fabrics. It would be my first full sized quilt ever. My great grandmother was an avid quilter and I hope to carry on her legacy with the same enthusiasm one day. She taught me to sew and embroidery but by the time I was interested in quilting and understood the beauty of it, I was already too late. I've been trying so hard to gather the fabrics and materials, but as anybody here would know, new materials and notions are super expensive. All of my great grandmother's belongings (a whole basement full dedicated to quilting and sewing, mind you) were auctioned off while I was playing silly teenager. There's so much I wish I could go back and change, and being there for her and learning from her is pretty much at the top of the list. Sewing and quilting makes me feel a little closer to her every day. I don't even care if I win anymore. I was just glad to say that (even on an anonymous message board). I just can't say it to my dad. It hurts him too much (he lost his grandmother after all). I feel like I let him down the most.

Those are some bright and cheerful colors!

I've recently lost 60 lbs, so nothing I own fits anymore, even the things I bought along the way.  Such a problem to have, huh?

Fortunately, since I sew, I won't have to spend all that much to get a new wardrobe.  Great stash-buster, too!  Right at the moment, with late spring and summer coming, I'm using up the yellow and navy stuff.  This would fit right in, maybe as a lightly quilted jacket with jeans for the summer youth theater program I work backstage at.  It's outdoors, and those evenings cool off...
