I've been thinking a lot about radishes lately. These tangy roots tinged with pink and purple are the first crop of my garden, and were a huge inspiration to me earlier this summer. The first few radishes pulled from my vegetable beds were rinsed and left on my kitchen counter to dry, but not before I snapped a quick photo on my phone and then played with it in a photo editing app. I can't wait to print the image on fabric and see where it takes me next.
|I'm inspired by fresh radishes! What inspires you?
More and more I am using technology to record my daily activities and inspiration. I even have an album on my phone devoted to "quilt ideas" waiting for uploads after each trip to the garden.
It seems that I am not alone in this search for inspiration from the natural world. While in Ohio at the spring taping of Quilting Arts TV
, I was astounded by the number of guest artists whose work is influenced by their surroundings. Sarah Ann Smith posts images from her daily dog walking excursions on Facebook. Jane Sassaman looks to the spiders in her garden for applique inspiration. Host Susan Brubaker Knapp has a series of "beauty on my morning walk"
photos that would rival any coffee table book.
And don't get me started on the botanical wonders executed in blue and white cyanotype prints from Sue Reno's quilted masterpieces. All of these guests brought so much joy and creativity to the series, I can't wait to try their techniques.
We are so excited to share this new season of Quilting Arts TV with you, we've organized a blog hop with many of the guests from the show.
