Our office is fairly bursting with babies. Two women are due this month, another is due in the summer, and last fall two coworkers became first-time grandmothers.
During the time when I was regularly creating prayer flags, I made a series with tiny paper tags attached. On the tag I glued words cut from old books--little phrases that fit the intention of the flag.
In keeping with my goal this year of making art every day, I'm keeping my eye out for quick sewing and quilting projects.
Is there anything more gratifying than watching someone discover the joys of quilting? My son's girlfriend is learning how to make a simple quilt, and I am having so much fun watching her work on this project with her friends.
At our weekly office show-and-tell, assistant editors Kristine Lundblad and Barbara Delaney both had quilts to reveal. Barb showed hers without a quilt binding, because as soon as she finished adding it, she will rush to the post office and mail the quilt to her new baby granddaughter.

projects. When you are learning how to quilt, often it's best to start
with a easy sewing project that has quilted or patchwork element, like
coasters, place mats, or a little bag.
Finishing a large quilting project is always satisfying. I feel such a sense of accomplishment. But I have to admit: finishing small quilting projects is almost as gratifying, and I can get that feeling of accomplishment so much faster!
