I am teaching two friends how to weave baskets next week.  I also have been teaching my 7 year old daughter how to sew.  She has been quilting with me since she was 5.

I'm teaching my son and daughter how to sew and quilt. Also, I help run Crafting Bee at my local library where people can bring in whatever projects they have to work on at the library. We're all passing on new skills and tips to each other! One woman has taught us paper embroidery; another is sewing and beading baskets made from coils of fabric-wrapped clothesline; another woman has taken up needle punch embroidery and showed the group how to do that; we've had men who crochet and hand quilt come in; plus lots of handy tips from knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, etc. and plenty of new recipes to share too! I taught some friends how to print with thickened dyes and thermofax screens this week, who knows what else this month!  

Teaching my 10 year old to quilt.

Just today, at work a co-worker asked about a quilt show recently where she saw my name.  I used the opportunity to encourage her to attend one of our guild meetings.  I told her all about the various styles, sizes, skill-levels of quilted items she could learn how to make and how wonderful our local guild is at welcoming new members.  

I have also held get-togethers with my mom, sister, daughter & nieces teaching them the basics of quilting.  We enjoy spending time together and learning new skills.  

Last summer I made a sun dress for my 4 yr old granddaughter.  She wanted to help, so she I put 2 masking tape x's on the top of my machine acrylic table. (one for each hand.) She had to keep her hands there while I sewed. ( I got my little finger in the machine as a child)

She tells people she made the dress!  I have 2 great nieces (ages 9 & 11) who beg me to help them learn.  I am making time for it this Sunday-for sure.  I want them to enjoy it as much as I have over the years.

PS  I just love Quilting Arts.  I reread them after a year or so and get re inspired.

Our local Quilts of Valor (Southern Tier Quilts of Valor) group will be hosting a screening of Stitched! It's a fundraiser for Quilts of Valor. To get a ticket (in advance of the screening), the attendees must stitch up a quilt block (made from patriotic fabric). Those blocks will be sewn together and the quilts will be on display in the lobby of the theater on the evening of the show.

I am teaching my daughter Rebekah how to machine piece and how to machine free motion quilt.  She has worked on one quilt so far and is starting to piece a modern quilt block.  She loves this art and loves beading as well.  Thanks for the give away.

I'll pass on my passion by inviting friends over for 'play dates' and we'll try a different technique each time. We've already started by trying out needle felting both by hand and with my machine. Everyone had a good time and learned something new or got some new ideas.  --Claire

I'm teaching my daughter how to sew and quilt. She's loving it!

I help my daughter with enriching her curriculum classes for 6th graders!  She is so creative and energetic, I am really learning from her but I help her with sketching and artistic ideas for her classes.

I taught my kids to sew when they were young - just the basics mind you.  However, it did open the door to other things.  My middle daughter is a photographer, my oldest dd loves to scrapbook and make jewelry, and my son works with his hands on all kinds of things like carpentry, models, and landscaping. Mission accomplished ;-)

I am teaching a watercolor group how to do image transfers at the end of the month.  I'm pretty excited to see what they do with this new tool in their tool box!

I would like to teach my daughter; but she's not interested at this time. My sister is interested, but lives away... I'm still working on her though!

I belong to a small group of quilters that meets each month at a member's coop in the "common room".  We share various quilting patterns and techniques.  During our time there one of the neighbours living in the coop expressed an interest in learing how to quilt.  Her mother has been very ill and this will be a good opportunity to give her a bit or respite from the care that she has been providing.  She will be joining us this Saturday and we hope to help her accomplish a simple Rail Fence quilt.  Perhaps she will pass it on to her mother, perhaps she will keep it.  We hope it will be the start of a new adventure for her.

Indirectly.  I've lent my portable sewing machine to one of my office collegues.  His daughter is taking a March break sewing class.  I also put together a small sewing kit for her to keep and I'm looking forward to seeing what she sews.

I learn friends freemotionquilting, but using thermofaxscreens and handdye fabrics as well. When I receive the latest QA I always show them. And that works. They were very traditional quilters but start experimenting now. And, most important, they have a lot of fun.

We have two grand daughters who both love the arts, but in different ways. The oldest (14) loves mixed media so I enjoy my time with her, painting using various techniques and teaching her lettering/doodling. The youngest (10) loves to sew. We haven given her a machine of her own and  presently teaching her to know and love that machine. Right now we are working on creating a doll and a pillow for her room.

I love that both girls enjoy spending time with me doing something that I am passionate about - and I am passing on the love and enjoyment of the arts.

I am extremely passionate about sharing my love of creating whether it is quilting, textiles arts, making  native garments called kuspuks with school children in Alaska, with my real life sewing and quilting groups or through social media.

I have been blogging since 2006 and seen it grow to almost 3,000,000 viewers with thousands of hits a day. So, that is my primary way of passing on my passion, my projects, and my journey.

I give away links to about 3,000 free patterns to jumpstart people who aren't comfortable creating on their own without patterns or sketches, but share my love of free piecing and random art as I make and donate small art quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative and blog about creating, sharing, my life, my art, and my  journey many times a week.

Even more importantly, I am learning and growing by constantly reading, viewing, and sharing other artist's journeys and seeking to connect with the passions that is so central to all of our lives and our need to make, and incorporate all forms of artistic expression into all of the textures, the layers, and the fibers of our own very being.

I've taught a few art quilting classes and am about to embark on teaching a series of of classes on making and trading Artist Trading Cards. Over the years I've enjoyed so much inspiration from both "Cloth, paper Scissors" and "Quilting Arts" magazines - it's a passion to pass on some of the wonderful adventures I've had thanks to the creative energy the magazines have provided for me!

I love passing on my passion for quilting. I have several friends that are new to sewing, and I'm helping them along the way. Everything from how to use and clean the sewing machine, reading patterns, and the part I like best, adding your own style! I have four grown kids, and they all sew in one way or another. I also have five grand kids, and the older ones, even the boys, sew! I bought the older boy his first sewing machine when he was eight, and he's not sewing much these days due to heavy school work, but he does enjoy coming for the summer and working on projects with his grandma and cousins. I didn't have that as a child, both sets of my grandparents has died before I was born, and that is one of the things that I really wanted my grand kids to have. So I'm passing it on to whoever I can!

I taught my friend how to batik over a bottle of wine, and I've been teaching my little sister how to use her sewing machine by showing her some basic quilting techniques.

I teach sewing and quilting to 7th & 8th graders at a local private school.  It is always a thrill to hear them talk about sewing as their favorite class and wanting class 5 days a week instead of 2.

Last week I taught 3 of my grandchildren and one of their cousins to do printmaking using foam core as a plate and to make a collage from the printed plates.  The other 3 have already learned that technique. One summer, I embroidered over a stain on one of my grandson's t-shirt, and he was so enthralled, he watched carefully and did another one of his own! I have taught all but the 3 year old to carve soft block and next week I will teach my oldest grand daughter, 11, to use an old treadle Singer that I was just given and have passed on to her.  She will learn to do a small art quilt.  Having taught her quite a bit by now, at Christmas, she gave me a t-shirt with a wonderful collage of her own ironed onto it!  I love to pass on my passions to the next generation!

I am teaching my neighbor how to "draw" with the sewing machine.  We are having lots of fun because I have only just started drawing that way and so I am learning at the same time!!!

I still have so much to learn, myself!  Since the interested people around me are usually more advanced than I am, I guess the main way I pass it on is a combination of sharing/showing what I've done, blogging about what I'm learning/doing and sending links to friends whenever I see something they might like to see or try for themselves.

Our Guild (Northshore Pins and Needles in Espanola, ON) passed on our passion by having a kids sewing day during the first Saturday of March Break.  We had 10 girls (daughters, nieces, granddaughters ...and some of their friends) ranging in age from about 7-12 participate.  We packed lunches and spent the morning making stuffed monster toys from a kit.  In the afternoon, we made pajamas.  The girls are invited to our Guild meeting this month to show off their work.  I have also been teaching my daughter (age 8) how to quilt. She has been sitting on my lap when I quilt since she was about 6 months old and started pointing at my machine.  She has already completed a couple small babydoll quilt, a purse and has her first full size quilt almost complete.

i am a sewing teacher. i teach classes at hobby lobby. I chose that store because they give me artistic liscense to teach whatever aspect of sewing my students want to learn about. i have a student who is undergoing cancer treatments and fiber art has become a great solace to her. we lost everything in an apartment fire last year. The first thing I created with my sewing machine that was donated to me was a quilt top. It is a strip pieced quilt top made from bits and pieces of our clothing and curtains salvaged from the fire. I will be finishing the quilt top on the anniversary of the fire. i appreciate quilting arts magazine and the wonderful eye candy.

I am doing a joint project with a friend and viewing the Quilting Arts Series together. We meet at least once a week to grope fabric, read articles and view the various DVD eye candy and ideas!!! We are members of A FAB group of Faibre Artists Bunch who take turns demonstrating new techniques.  Each month is full of Fibres Arts which fuels each of us with Passion Plus !! sthanks to Pokey and her team for starting QA for all of us with addictions. I'm an art teacher and I'm teaching all of my 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to sew.  They are loving it.

I am teaching a friend to hand sew. She has always wanted to learn.  At the first "lesson" (actually it was Starbuck's coffee and cookie at my dining room table.;D), I gave her a sewing basket with the basics to begin hand sewing. She is an eager learner and I like that I am relearning things I had forgotten. The gift of friendship is the biggest prize a person can give and receive.

I have always loved fiber, fabric and especially COLOR!!!  The way that I have spread the joy and excitement of fabric in my small Vermont town is that each spring I make some secret thing to put around town.  One year I made bright colored calico birds, each with a manila tag attached to their leg and the phrase "think spring" emblazened on each tag.  In the dark of night I snuck throughout the town and attached them to trees, doornobs of shops downtown, to the events chalkboard downtown and anywhere that they would perch.  It was so much fun to listen to the stories that people made up with their conjectures of where the birds came from!!!!  This year I made a large (almost 36" tall) frog from recycled sweaters. Where there were moth holes on his back, I covered them with bright little buttons.  in his long toady toes I added a bright hot pink flower (also of recycled sweaters) and then sat him on the post in the center of town that used to house the watering trough for horses.  I repeated the slogan of "Think Spring" on a sign next to him.  I have taught folks here in town to love the allure of handmade fiber creations.  For me that is one of the best ways to pass on the passion of fabric and fiber -- by creating the excitement, joy, and appreciation of fiber in others!!!  

My passion is passed on through my blog...through my guild..and through one on one with friends and relatives!  Just this past weekend my sister-in-law from Kansas City visited us in Texas.  She seemed to be in total awe of my art quilts and so eager to learn!  I am very fond of paper piecing which I use very often in making my own patterns...so we spent quite a bit of time in my showing her how to do the technique and sent her home with some ready made patterns and books.  I can't wait to see what she comes up with...she is a very creative person but had never gotten into sewing/quilting before.

My sister-in-law was just here this weekend to visit and was in awe of my wall hangings!!  So she and I spent quite a bit of time together, my teaching her the technique of paper piecing.  I love the precision of pp and use it quite a bit in designing my own patterns.

I teach at an Intermediate School in a low socio-economic town in the Far North of New Zealand. This term I teach all 200 of our students how to screenprint their own designs, using a paper stencil, onto calico which I will sew up as wallhangings for the different classes. As 'icing on the cake' they then print on their own T-shirt an original design. Part of my teaching is showing them how they can create fabric art without the need for expensive resources (you can make your screen from an old picture frame from the second hand shop etc.). One girl already plans to print T-shirts for their family reunion later this year. As an extension activity I will get some of the students  into painting or printing their class name or their own names or similar using your easy crayon method! We might just have a few budding fibre artists in our little town...

I am thrilled that my niece has asked for my advice on quilting as she begins.  Together I think we'll explore some new techniques and make some wonderful memories.

I always make sure that my sisters and I have a project to do for our sisters weekend, last weekend we felted owls to glue to clothes pins for a baby shower favor.    In the fall I will be starting a Craft Club for  middle school girls.  I teach elementary art and each week the older girls ask what I have worked on, they are so eager to learn new things!

I have always loved to sew. I am also a teacher and love to teach. I began quilting back in the 1970's. I have taught my 3 granddaughters some basics of quilting, I teach workshops through my quilt guild, I have taught friends to quilt, and now I'm going to teach a quilting class at our local library. I don't want to see quilting die out, and I'll do all I can to pass this passion on to the next generation.

I am teaching my 40+ year old daughter to quilt.  She had only a passing interest in quilting earlier in her life, but now she has developed her own passion for this satisfying craft.  It is such a joy to share my sewing studio with her and to see her talent for working with fabric emerge at this time in her life.  

I'm teaching my 10 year old daughter to sew.  Since she is quite a distance from me, we work on sewing on her summer visits with me.  I think this summer I will share with her some of the creative ideas I've found here on fabric surface design to make her own pieces for a quilting project.

I encourage my sons and daughter-in-laws by giving them tools and supplies and books, helping them with projects, and teaching them techniques.  When I was shopping at the craft store this week, I spied some projects I can hardly wait for my toddler grandson to grow into!

I would love to share my passion for textiles with young people through an after-school workshop or summer workshop.  I've been sewing since I was 7 and playing with fabrics and everything that sparkles even earlier than that.

My 4 year old granddaughter is already aware that grandma's house is where we 'do' things. She comes with a 'to do' list at each visit. This time we're going to do paper/ fabric collage Easter eggs. What better way to use scraps and get our fingers messy! She'll be in her element.

I have been teaching crafts to my Grandson, now 9, since he was 2.  He loves all sorts of crafts now and we are always making something different when he comes to spend the night with me.

For his 5th birthday I bought him all sorts of craft supplies and storage for them so that he could just pull out his box of supplies and make something whenever he wants to.  He has one for home and one at my house. So, even if I am not ready to do a new craft with him he can always do something on his own.

Now he paints, colors, beads just whatever he feels like.

I've been in active quilt groups for many years and it's easy to pass on ideas, tips and techniques in these groups.  Currently, one group I'm in meets regularly to share art quilting techniques, so it's always full of learning at these times.  In the past I've shared fabric dyeing with beginners, too.  It's fun to see someone take off on a new style.  

I teach art at a primary school in Australia.  I make sure that I teach classes to do weaving - first with paper and then with textiles.  For two years in a row we held art exhibitions called "Colours of Australia" in which the children showcased their weaving.  They had chosen an Australian environment (desert, seaside, rainforest or city) and based their choice of colours on that.  Their loom weaving was quite spectacular.  Now parents ask if I can teach them too.  I am looking forward to this.

I have taught some of my neighbors children to make quilt blocks and quilt them.  I think that helps quilting live on.

I am going to teach a friend how to make a log cabin pillow.  Our goal is for her to make log cabin quilt, or start one by the end of the summer.

I am teaching my 8 year old son how to quilt.  He has been making simple projects with the sewing machine for about a year.  Over the weekend, I showed him how to cut half square triangles and sew them together.  He is enjoying piecing is working on making this a quilted table runner (square in square).

I have two wonderful sons but I always felt a bit cheated but now I have a daughter-in-law that loves to try out projects. Melissa has never done any crafting and I'm haveing a great time passing my knowledge. We both love it!

I am a quilter, my sister loves sewing anything and everything, and our mom embroiders. Now we will all teach each other our individual hobbies. My sister is teaching me to sew a crazy quilt pillow and my mom will help me embroider. I am teaching them to quilt a baby blanket (attic windows) which my sister will embroider words onto and my mom will sew a bag to hold the quilt.

I took a class last week in machine/longarm quilting so I can bring back techniques to share with fellow quilters. It was great to be with others who love to do what I do.

I have just joined the Crazy Quilt International group and am participating in my first Round Robin block exchange. I took my "naked" block to our scrapbook group so they could see the "before". It sparked a lot of interest for this talented group so I will be sharing some cq techniques with them. Some may do it with paper for their scrapbooks. Can't wait to show my granddaughter and teach her how to embellish a block after it is pieced.

Two grand-nieces did sunprinting with me last summer. Now we're going to make something with their fabrics, before doing some dyeing.

Working with kids gives me a creativity re-charge.

I'm new to quilting, so I can't really teach anyone ; yet.  What I do accomplish is to make sure that people see the patterns I want to use as the inspiration for the next project.  This will hopefully inspire them and make them realize that quilting is an art and that it has the ability to be accomplished.

I am auctioning myself off at our school auction.  I will be offering to teach quilting/sewing. The winner can choose their opportunity to learn a variety of techniques.  I will take them on a shopping trip to teach the winner how/what to shop for.  Then we will create a project of their choose.  I love to pass on my knowledge to anyone who wants to learn.

Hi everyone

I am truly passionate about my fibre art -- especially that since retirement and a new house with a fantastic studio, I can devote more time to my art. I pass on my passion, not only during March craft month, but throughout the year by teaching, generously sharing my techniques and tips at fibre art meetings (Out of the Box group of Fibre Artists, West Carleton Fibre Group, Ottawa Valley Quilters' Guild, Ottawa Valley Weavers' and Spinners' Guild, All Dolled Up doll club in Ottawa, etc.) as well as at craft fairs. Specifically this month I am meeting smaller groups of friends to not only share my expertise, but also to learn from them.

In our community we have a Arts Connection group. Within the group, there is all types of art, water color and oil painting, jewelry making, beading, basket weaving, quilting, etc. I am teaching a two part "Double Irish Chain" Quilt to a beginner group starting Friday.

I have been teaching how colours work together  to special needs children making a textured colour wheel and dying fabrics to make our own hanging.

In a couple of weeks I'm going to teach my niece's Girl Scout troop how to make a small quilt. Very exciting...

My 4 1/2 year old granddaughter is extremely artistic, and generally curious about everything. I plan to get her started with hand-sewing, then move on to piecing and quilting.

I am helping my niece on her first quilt, a T-shirt quilt. One of my co-workers is is interested also, we are planning a trip to a nearby Quilt museum for inspiration.

I made my first quilt with my grandmother, mother, and two maternal aunts when I was about ten years old.  Now that I am a grandmother, I am making quilts for my grandchild, and I plan to teach her (and her mother) to quilt when she is a little older (she is 18 months old now).

I'm passing on some quilting tips, ideas, and projects on to a firend who likes to sew and is always looking for new things to try.

I am the Program Chair for my quilt guild so I invite teachers to teach our members. I invite new quilters all of the time to join us. I have been working with my nieces and nephew on their sewing projects. While shopping at fabric stores I have been able to pass on several sewing/quilting tips. I also Skype with a friend and we teach each other many new quilting methods.

I have helped my granddaughter to make all different kinds of textile projects.  She even entered one into the local Textile Center contest (didn't win, unfortunately). Even my grandson has helped me make a quilt.

We have new quilters in our quilt guild, and I try to help them during our sewing/quilting sessions.  If you can get someone started off with correct techniques it is so much easier for them as they start to learn more advanced techniques.

I will pass on my passion to my daughters and teach them how to quilt or do other fiber art.  And the next time my granddaughter visits, I'm going to teach her how to make a quilt for her dolls.  I feel strongly about this... my grandmother and mother taught me what I consider to be invaluable fiber arts - embroidery, knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting.  I do NOT want these wonderful things to become a lost art in my world.  

I want them to know how much fun it is choosing fabric, choosing a pattern or how to pull it out of their mind's eye and create something new and exciting!  

Since my granddaughter has been about 3 we have been sewing, dyeing, printing or knitting together - She LOVES to come to Nana's all by herself for a week just to "play" in my studio.  I also teach sewing to a 12 year old daughter of a friend of mine.  I have collected several sized looms, spinning wheels, sewing machines, printing, stamping supplies, paints, etc with the intention of introducing my grandkids to many mediums until they find their favorites.  It is really important for us "elders" to pass on our knowledge and passions to the younger generations.

Share Quilting Arts with my work friends

My art quilt group is constantly looking for someone to introduce new techniques, I pledge to reintroduce collage techniques at our meeting on Wednesday. It will be a way of exploring design before constructing our art quilts. This might also help break the barrier of getting started with new projects..

My soon to be 6 year old grand-daughter has begged me to teach her to make  a quilt this summer.  I can't wait to pass on this to a new generation.  My great grandma & grandma taught me to quilt.

A few of us in our prayer shawl group are going to teach the others new techniques. I will lead the others in a simple quilted bag project. A friend will teach a new crochet technique. We will all teach our strengths and passions!

Oh how I would love to win this. i am always teaching people some sort of crafting I do. I have crafted since I was a wee one. As kids we did crafts not TV, rule of the house. And I brought my own kids up that way. Today my Daughter has her owe web site and is doing great.

My husband and I run a town/village farmer's market every week. Bringing "craft" goodies is a part of the fun for those who visit us.

We put out "quilty" things, finished products and are even incorporation a "quilt show" in our Ladies' Expo next month.

Candy Glendenings website is fabulous.  Now besides just teaching my 22 year old granddaughter more about sewing as she has requested, I think we will explore fabric dying.  My granddaughter loves art of any kind and I've shared so much from my quilting Arts magazines with her.  That's what has inspired her to want to learn more about sewing.  She has so many ideas of things she'd like to do with fabric.  I can't wait for us to find time to work on it.  She lives  a days drive from me, so it's not easy to arrange.  But she continues to try new things because of all the ideas I'm able to share with her from your wonderful newsletters and magazines.  Thank you.
