I like the idea of not having to wash the marking out. I love the crisp look of the quilt that hasn't been washed when I'm selling or gift giving.

Re: Marking for Free Motion

For white marks on dark stuff, I like my new chalk marker by Bohin. The chalk wheels are neat and they come in useful colors like yellow - they also don't stretch the fabric when you use them. I use the blue washout pens on light colored things, but only if those things are going to be rinsed or washed. Otherwise, stick to chalks and powders that can be brushed or steamed away.

Re: Marking for Free Motion

Thanks Karoda, I've never used a chalk wheel. I'll check into this. I'm guessing the water soluble markers come in white? or other different colors?

Re: Marking for Free Motion

I've been using a water soluble marker. And I also like the chalk wheels.

Marking for Free Motion

I normally just go for it with free motion, so I have no experience with marking. I have a quilt ready for quilting (lap quilt) and I think it needs a more structured quilting pattern. I have a pounce bag and have used it with stencils (ones used for painting) I'll be glad to get your advise. Thanks in advance.
