There are a number of ways to make the flowers - all fairly simple - and the leaves are even easier!

Here are some tutorials for flowers, roses and leaves

I found out that the artist used Steam a Seam 2. As far as I could tell the Steam a Seam was painted, the ironed onto organza. Then the organza was laid over a base fabric, and then the design elements were embellished with machine stitching and beading. (I'd like to post the pix but I don't know the artist or have permission).

Has anyone used this technique? I am confused because the SAS2 has paper on both sides. Do you paint the sticky side?

The finished product on the organza looks just like it was silk-screened. its a very beautiful technique. I havn't been able to find directions for anything similar by googling. Lots of stuff on fabric to fabric, but not painting on the SAS2. I appreciate information from anyone who has used this technique.

Maybe a QA article!!!!!!

small christmas LED lights

I have been toying with the idea of mounting a small string of LED christmas lights onto a small wallhanging. I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Either the cordes are too long or the battery pack is too heavy! Any ideas or has someone out there already successfully completed such a task????

They worked pretty well, and the effect was great. The drawback is that you need to iron the back side of the project to get the jewels to stick, and it is hard to get enough heat through the quilt layers for fear of scorching the back side of the quilt. I still recommend the iron on rhinestones because they are cheap, and if they don't stick you can use them on something else with no loss to the quilt.

My quilt can be seen in the upcoming NWQE show in Portland, OR 9/24-26/09. It is titled "Walk into My Parlor - a Cautionary Tale." The rhinestones create a spider's web.

Embellishing with needle felting

I have started working with roving, yarns, etc. for small projects esp.with wool. I am looking at wool flaps on small messenger style bags as a possibility. Has anyone done this?

I am sending this from my RV in Bakersfield CA. This is our 8th day on the road and we are having fun. Yesterday i found a bead shop that sold cabochons enabling my latest obsessions, bead embroidery, having discovered Sherri Serrafini and Heidi Kummli's book. Beads are easier to work with on the road than fabric. Also have my journal and just managed to fill in on the coastal plain winery trip( what I remember, oh this was done in the tow not the RV). It will probably take a long time for me to work with the beabd embroidery as playing with color and shine is so different than designing with fabric. Most od the jewelry I make is based on fabric. Sometime it works other not. So on with the learning
