I'm looking for fun ways to label things--boxes, jars, trays, and so on--in your studio. Do you print out sticky labels in a fun font? Use Scrabble tiles to spell out what's in a box? Handpaint the words? Draw a picture? Use a stamp? I'd like to feature pictures and brief descriptions of artful labels in an upcoming issue of Studios. So if you have any ideas, show and tell, please.

suggestions needed

I have a 12 x 12 room - I want to completely gut this room and make it into a functional studio. I'm lucky to have a five foot walk in closet for fabric storagel.

I just wasn't 'feeling it' about using a traditional ironing board. Once I get the applique resting where I want it-- I don't want to move the block to get from one portion of the applique to another.

When I found a Bon Nash ironing board cover at a local fabric store that is closing, I thought.....oh yes! That will do!

So I bought a 24inch round piece of wood, some wood screws and washers and a little thin cotton batting and re-purposed a crumby old utility table I already had--

The "Round" is not mounted to the table. It's heavy enough to stay put on the table while ironing is in process, but I can turn it without touching my work-- OR-- I can lift it off and set it on another surface if need be. The height is good for a sitting down person, or for good reach and leverage while standing.

I have plenty of storage space under two worktops and a small area to hang things up. Would be glad of anyones tips on storage, that they find works well for them. I have clear plastic boxes -but I am sure there are many ideas out there that just havent occurred to me yet!! Would be glad of some tips from you all. My cabin measures 10.5 feet by 10.5 feet, so storage is pretty tight.

Baskets

I'm trying to find the baskets that Pokie has in her Studio on the shelves with all her material. Does anyone have any idea where I can find this style/size?

Anjiejags Log Cabin part two.

My log cabin is taking shape!! The shell is up and the concrete floor is going down tomorrow. I have applied two coats of paint to the outside and have got to complete the painting of all the awkward bits, here and there. The interior is going to be insulated with a special insulation board and I shall have my husband fit some worktops. He will also do the electrics(he is an electrician by trade)so that I can use my electric sewing machine and embellisher. There have been one or two setbacks e.g the windows were too small to fit properly and there werent enough fixings sent with the kit - but never mind-these things didnt cause too much trouble in the end. I am really beginning to feel enthusiastic about getting back to doing some work now!! I have to thank my late Mom for the the legacy she left me for this to be done. She was always interested in what I was making and always encouraged me to do something with what I learned on the many courses I have been on.Thanks Mom!!

Storing in plain sight

I don't know if this is the best place to post this, but since another thread has been talking about labeling/storage, I thought I would share how I keep my various pens, pencils, paint brushes stored.

I have a large collection of these glasses that belonged to my Greatj-grandmother, and Mother in Law. I never use them for their intended purpose, so decided that if they were just going to catch dust in the cupboard, they might as well catch dust in my studio.

Each one holds a definite type of marking tool and other supplies---water color pencils, plain colored pencils, Pigma pens, jelly roll pens, paint brushes, Angelina film, etc.

The picture is rather dark, as it is quite bright outside, but I think you can get the general idea.
