Hello

Just joined a little while ago so hello to all on here. I love sewing and making things. I'm always thinking or making something. At this point in time I have a 'New home' Janome sewing machine, which is great. However, I am starting to do more actual 'quilting' and 'embroidery' aswell as the actual patchwork and I' looking for tips on a new sewing machine. I've looked at one called a Pfaff but there are so many. Does anyone know of one particular one that covers quilting, embroidery etc. My price range is around $£600 give or take.

Thanks and look forward to chatting

i live in northern michigan- made my first quilt in 1976- but throughout the years have spent my time doing many other crafts, sewing- made my own clothes- clothed my children- about ten years ago the (quilting bug) really took hold of me- since then i have pretty much concentrated on the quilting arts. learning new techniques, stretching (sometimes to the snapping point) the limits of the craft. I am a long-arm quilter, fabric dyer, love working in wools & silks, love embellishments...always seeking new ways to create what i envision- dream up;

I love wool rug hooking also and the two crafts seem to go hand in hand in my world. I always have a (hand project) in the works- car rides, sitting/waiting i am sewing- or hooking...it's quite an obsession.

I recently found myself unemployed (outside the home) and now have the winter to see where i can go with my craft- maybe i can figure out some (better) time management - locate more hours in the day to accomplish all that i want to accomplish.

i look forward to being part of this community.

foil paper used by Deborah Boschert

Show 1001, Deborah used a foil paper to do interesting monograms on her quilt projects. I am going to make a baby quilt this fall but in the meantime have been asked to repair an old quilt. The top is what he wants. The back is very thin but whole. The stuffing is mostly in place.

Should I take the old batt out and use a new one? or just put a new one and the new back on top?

Any thoughts?

Secondly, is there any danger to making a tied quilt for a baby?

My name is Kathy, (45) I live with my hubby on our dairy farm. We live 5 mins from the Hokianga harbour and Waipoua Forest, also 5 mins from the wild west coast. So some can say I live in paradise. Our youngest child Maggie (19)is about to depart the house and head to Canada for a year...so finally we have a totally empty house. So I have lots of room to spread out and claim yet another room with my crap as the family have been known to call it. I have been with my hubby for 28 years, we have 2 other kids AJ (24) who has a beautiful Canadian girlfriend Melissa, and a daughter Ashleigh (22)who has 2 beautiful children...Cory 4 and Stevi ron-ella 2.

I have a great love of beads, I collect them, make them = lampwork, play with them...but I also received my great aunts sewing collection of lace, buttons, material her sewing machine, cottons etc that I thought I had better find out how to use them...hence finding you all on the net, after watching on tv about your website. I also started a Stitch and *** group up in our local area to get people out in public to do knitting, we met up once a week and have a good laugh and moan.

SO when it comes to craftwork im glad to say im an addict. So I would love to met new freinds who are like minded..

Is the ink from the transparency supposed to be dry and the matte medium dry also. Thanks

It used to be a time when younger was embarrassed about quilting but as you get older you find that you start caring less about what others think. I now know quite a few guys into quilting...I always feel close to my grandmother since I learned by watching her do it when growing up....

new member

hello to all..I have been watching quilting arts for some time now and a big fan...now hope to get some good advice for getting a new sewing machine, that is touch screen...and meet some new friends with a common interest in sewing.....hope to hear from you all soon.

Quilting Arts Show # 310, using unmounted stamps and oil paints.

I watched show # 310, some time back, took notes, but have had trouble finding stamps, even close to the ones, used for this show. I have searched the internet, numerous time, but no luck. I saw a post from a Stephanie W., asking about the same show.

This is a quilt I made in honor of the Marine Corps Aviation Cenntenial coming up next year. My husband is a US Marine Pilot and the spouses of his squadron raffled this off to raise some money so that they could do something special for the Marines at the Marine Corps Birhtday Ball this fall. Almost all the Marines had been deployed to the Horn of Africa, Pakistan/Egypt/Libya or Afghanistan throughout 2010 and early 2011. All the aircraft pictured have been or are currently flown by the USMC from 1912 to the present.

I chose a wool batting and stippling to give the quilt a 'fluffy' cloud feeling.

I'm not sure if this really falls under the title of 'art quilt' but I really wanted to share it here.
