i was watching the program the other day on pbs. you were dyeing fabric. and gave a formula or the amount needed for a 12 inch square of fabric.

then said that to dye a 24 inch square - you would need to double the recipe. just to remind you - that is incorrect. a 24 inch square has a surface a 4 times larger than a 12 inch square. and you would need to make 4 times the recipe of dye to obtain the same color and value for a 24 inch square as for the 12 inch square. ckquilter

Quilting Arts Video

I really hate to put this up here, but I'm having a problem with one of the video downloads I've ordered.

I love QA books, In stitches series,...
The problem is I'm from Spain and I can't find the materials for make the differents techniques (Quilt Pounce, fabric paints, shiva paintsticks, dyeing supplies, Thermofax screen....) in general all materials for mixed media....
Please, are there any shop that sell all the materials? I only have found a few materials, but everyone in a different shop.
Now I have bought The Best of Quilting Arts, but I can't do a lot of lessons.
Thank you all!

I am not a quilter but have a great interest in quilt techniques for use in my primary medium, which is weaving. But I think most quilters would have a lot of fun playing with fusing in their quilts.

I have a tip for quilting your work. When I don't know how I want to quilt my work I take a photo of it or scan it when it is small and then use the pencil or paintbrush in Photoshop or Paint and draw on the photo to see what it will look like when quilted. You can choose the colour of your thread as well.

free motion quilting workshop

Hi,

I'm new to art quilting and just bought the workshop free motion quilting. I've learned everything I need to know except for one thing. On the video Susan drops her foot so that it sits on the fabric. If I use my darning foot on my Pfaff machine I have to lower the foot but it is still a long distance from the fabric, which makes it very difficult to control where I'm going. Am I doing it correctly? If I drop the foot on the material I have to pull the fabric to get some movement. Which is the right way?

Ordering online

Hi,

this is my adventure with QA Magazine and Interweave: eversince December I've been attempting to order QA Magazine to discover that my country's name was not on the list. After some back and forth emailing I was assured (by Pokey among others) that my country would be added to the list.

So I took their word for granted, no reason to doubt them right? So knowing that I decided to order Art & Quilt in January, as I was happily following the procedures I arrived at the logical request, namely to state my country. To my utter amazement it is not on their list! Back to back and forth emailing (this time I'm not amused and I clearly expressed it). I got 3 replies from 3 different dpts assuring me that the country's name had finally been added, apologies etc etc.

OK, fast forward to today. Happily thinking that this is it, I finally order Art & Quilt and another DVD and guess what... You got it, my country's name is not on their list. Do you believe that? That whole dpt must be a joke, to keep potential customers dangling and waiting while promising them to do whatever is necessary. I thought the purpose of the exercise was to gain customers not lose them. I'm totally disappointed and disgusted with the way they treated me and I'm wondering if they are other people out there in the same predicament as mine.

Please let me know if you have also been victim of this kind of practice or running gag.
