Hello there! I'd like to show, share and hear your comments on my work.

The first, "Pyramids, unplugged" and the second, "A very original Faberge Egg".

Although I wanted to sew a pictorial quilt after a beautiful photograph , then I made up my mind and changed the fabrics and started to feel "unplugged".

About the Faberge Egg, I wanted to experiment a 3D. At the beggining it was rather difficult to solve the shape. I

bought a plastic egg like the ones used for Easter chocolate eggs and made a pattern using foil.

I'm new here, but hope to visit often. My name is Jennifer Rodriguez and I blog over at Allthingsbelle.blogspot.com . This past year I've decided to find my inner voice and focus solely on textile surface art.

This is Mr. Sunshine. My goal was to create a series of different toned sugar skulls for Dia de los Muertos, but I became pregnant with our third child at the beginning.. and well between my two little girls and being exhausted..this piece took forever!

It is really heavily hand embroidered on the facial features and lots of free motion quilting in the other large areas.

I found my voice is a bit dark and macabre.. maybe it's all the Disney princesses I'm surrounded by..lol

Where do I do the FMQ'ing on this quilt...

Where and what kind? I figured I would echo the letters to make them stand out, but what about the rest? I want the quilt (For a baby) to be soft and cuddly and know that the closer the FMQ stitching the stiffer it makes the quilt, I also am only talented at Meandering..haven't gotten to designs yet.

The heart blocks are made of HST's. Do I meander in the heart only and STID in the background (white) sqs and yellow sashing? Or maybe STID the heart and meander elsewhere... Or XX the yellow sashing and meander the rest ?

I try to learn something new with each qulit I make and the lettering and the HST heart is new to me, but using differenent FMQ'ing is new and I think this is where I need to learn that! Thanks for any comments/helps

The quilt is about 50x50 and for a infant. HST hears are small dots on white background and the letters and blue squares are a bluish/teal with light white splots instead of dots. The letters are appliques on and are 4" tall.

It's been a long time! Last year was rather long and with lots of work and problems to be solved.

Well, here I am again to show you my last quilt. This wall hanging is for an exhibition opening at the Argentine Textiles Art Center in Buenos Aires in March..

I haven't agreed with myself on the name yet. I'm thinking about it.

I wanted to do something different and use some fabrics with animals. It was a chalenge since it was the first time I have done circles. The quilt is 0.395 x 0395. The maximum for this exhibition is 40 centimeters.

The border has some little insects done along with the freehand quilting.

Hope to hear your comments.

Thank you.

I also took a picture of the back before adding the backing. You will see the details of the freehand quilting.

I am struggling to get a decent photo, as the roving always seems to turn to fuzz...and I realize now that I have loaded this that the beading and the hand quilting with embroidery floss is hardly evident. Sigh.

The piece was inspired by my many drives across Utah, through wonderful mesa valleys.

I need another's eye as to the composition. The blue of the roving and the paint sticks is strong. The "sun" with its curling knit lace is a stronger element in real life, but I am debating as to whether to bring it out more. The piece is more about the cliffs and the valley river than the sun -- but maybe my intent is simply not where this is going...Thoughts? And be candid!

Hi! Regards from Argentina. How have you been? Today I submitted an art quilt based on a painting by a selfmade painter from the beginning of the XX Century, Don Quinquela Martin. The textile exhibition will open on September 2. We had to choose an artist to recreate it. (correct my English if I make mistakes). I like the embroidery but I have to confess that I had trouble when I started the border. My sewing machine was not at its best that day.

Well, hope to listen from you.

All the best. And then a matching hue contrast piece emerged. And then a yard from my stash. The usual route would be to piece a bit, create a border...but somehow I am not inclined to do so. Maybe another element, screen printing over one of these? Cutting through the drawing, to let one of the other fabrics show through? Or maybe even stay with this triangular composition, the result of trying to get all to fit on the scanner? :-)

My inspiration was an Autumn Birch tree photo that I found on-line. I have attached a picture and was wondering IF you would be kind enough as to give me your feedback. Have I completely missed the mark, am I getting the concept but need to focus on one area or another, etc.?

I made this quilt after a photo taken by Carlos Alberto Bau, a great photographer who died in a plane crash at the beginning of 2010. The picture depicts a frozen lake and the Andes in the south of the Patagonia. The sky is red because I assume it was at dusk time. I used machine appliqué and machine free hand quilting to make the quilt. It measures about 7-3/4" x 7-3/4".

River among pebbles.

Another landscape quilt after a photo by Carlos Alberto Bau. It's about 7"x6". Machine embroidery and machine appliquè. Maybe he took the picture on a summer afternoon by a river in the mountains.

Hope you like them.

I decided to try something new with this quilt and work with felt. I
created the image in photoshop and then took that to Kinko's and had it
printed the actual size of the quilt. I began by making all of the sea
vegetation first.

I created the big red anemone out of individual pieces
that I then hand sewed together.

I did this with each of the pieces.
Then they were hand painted with magic markers and acrylic fabric paint.

I then hand sewed them onto the background of the quilt. Then I created
the individual turtles by cutting the basic outline out of felt, then I
sewed the background fabric behind the felt grid and cut the small
pieces and sewed them onto the head, arms and legs.

These were then hand sewed onto the background and I basted the whole piece together with cotton baton and background fabric.

I
hand never used a machine to quilt, all my other quilts were done by
hand, on the encouragement of my husband Larry I took out my old 1591
straight stitch Singer from 1952, read the directions on free motion
quilting and quilted the whole thing. I have to say it was some what
nerve racking but, it came out fantastic.

Then the quilt was bound, beading and glitter were added to finish it off.

This is my quilt top of a Eurasian Coot on a sunken boat. I used David Taylor's method based on a photo I took at Garda Lake in Italy. I hand pieced the background using my hand dyed and painted fabrics. The coot and the shadows in the water are hand appliqued again with my fabric. Here is the photo.

As you can see I deleted the shirt under the hatch, cropped the image a bit and am debating if putting in some grass on the bottom left would help or hinder. I think that the boat is sunken doesn't show in the quilt, which may be helped in the quilting.

Here is a detail of the coot.

I haven't posted anything in a LONG time! Love the magazine. :)

Please let me know what you think! This is an art quilt, one of three in a series that I'm making for my cousin's baby.

The concept:

The start:

Some changes..

Major re-design:

And the finished product:

Sorry for the picture overload!

I'm pretty new to art quilts and sewing, so when it came time to quilt the darn thing, I chickened out and framed it instead. I'm still extremely happy with how things worked out! Any constructive criticism is welcome. Had I more time, I would have added more to the foreground.

It is made out of commercial prints and batiks. I have glued in some scrapbooking details like some of the little flowers, the "Happiness lives here" sign, and the nameplate. I love taking details from odd commercial prints and fabrics and turning them into something totally different.

Thanks in advance!

ballpoint pen art

Also, do you feel it is a sunrise or sunset?
