I am new to this forum but oh how exciting to find friends who are like me!
I am actually in search of an art retreat in the midwest. I have heard of folks in magazines and such talk about them but don't know anything about them. I live in central IL and would love to do some sort of mini get-a-way. I love learning new stuff and laughing and talking along the way! thanks!
Marca,
Welcome to the forum. I am one of the moderators here. I live in Aurora - west of Chicago. I go regularly to Valley Ridge Art Studios in Wisconsin. i make the trip once a year. I highly recommend that one. I am going to be a Jane Wynn workshop in July actually. I go for the fun of it.

Here is another one but I have not gone on it: www.whispering-woodlands.com It is in Verona, WI.
The *** Blick on is coming up in July. It is not quilting but it is all about collage and painting. You can also pick up some art supplies at a great price.

I am going on this one in August, this will be my second time going. It is in Arizona. http://artunraveled.com/
You might want to also search the forum. There are workshop art teachers who post their workshops here from time to time. You can also look for local groups in your area who would be a great resource. Or try a Yahoo group.
Let me know if you live by Rantoul. If you do, I can hook you up with a local artist there with some resources.

This is awesome! Though I'm not sure I will be able to go (the dates), these are exactly what I am looking for! I have signed up for the mailing lists. How did you know about the Blick one (I don't see a mailing list sign up.)
I actually am not a quilter (I'm learning) but a mixed media amateur. I love it!
I'm new to this and love getting resources and ideas.
I also enjoyed looking at your blog!!!!!!
Yes, I am near Rantoul (within an 45 minutes I would guess.)
THANK YOU!
Just as an FYI, D*ck Blick has lesson plans for all kinds of art projects on their site, too.:D

I received a post card in the mail from a new quilting retreat that just opened in the midwest. The name of the retreat is called Farmer's Dotter and their website address is http://www.farmersdotter.com.
It looks like a cute place to visit and the post card says she's giving $75 off regular price for a three night stay.
Sorry, I am a little late in responding. I am on their email list because I took one of the classes a few years back. Here is the link to get on their email list.

If you want to give me your email address privately, I will hook you up with a mixed media artist that lives in Rantoul. She has been one for several years and knows a lot of what is going on in that general area. You can email me at crazyartgirl@sbcglobal.net. Make sure you tell me what it is for, plz.

(Maybe this thread could be moved out of Say Hello to a different area?)
Madison, WI is not central IL, but it is closer than the East and West coasts! Several of my friends and I plan to make this an event for next summer!

I have family in Rantoul. How funny! I go there once or twice a year. None of them are crafters at all, however. :)
