Hi Everyone! The new issue of Fiberarts is mailing out now. It focuses on the theme of wearable art (and includes a variety of approaches to the topic including wardrobe, installation art, and clothing from unusual materials).
Feature articles in this issue include:
-The sustainable, handstiched, reverse-applique, style of Natalie Chanin, founder of Alabama Chanin (whose work appears on the cover)
-The Dutch wax-resist wearing sculptural vignettes of Yinka Shonibare, MBE
-The fun and fabulous hand-felted handbags of Lisa Klakulak
-The cedar bark Haida-basketry garments of Lisa Telford
And a look at fiber art at the Venice Biennale from the last ten years.
The issue also includes reviews of Rowland Ricketts Immanent Blue exhibit at The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, New Harmony, Indiana; Shoes Tell Stories at the Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, Massachusetts; and This is NOW from Drawing to Contexture at the Edinburgh Art Festival, Edinburgh, Scotland. Other articles include how to care for your vintage treasures, a knitting collaboration between Rhode Island School of Design students and Italian clothing designers, Shinique Smith’s sculptures made from repurposed clothing, a look at the curating of the wearable art exhibit: Rare Bird of Fashion The Irreverent Iris Apfel, and much more. Let us know what you think when you get your copy!
