  • Quilted Felting - where to talk about it and share?!

Not sure which of the subforums "Quilted Felting" belongs in, much less Art Quilting that incorporates polymer clay...so I will try here! In some ways, felting - be it by hand or by machine - is rightfully an embellishment. But at times what I am doing is creating cloth, which is then quilted...

  • Help! Thread shredding!

I am free motion quilting a king size cotton patchwork quilt on my vintage Featherweight. The thread is a 40 weight polyester embroidery thread, and I am using new embroidery needles, size 11 and 12. Even after putting in a new needle, I can sew for a few minutes, and then I get a shredded top thread...

  • Re: what sewing machine do you use?

DH bought me a Babylock Quest last year. I've never been able to bond with this machine but I can't sell it-nobody is willing to pay what I did, and I got it at a show for a great discount. I'd love to be able to either fall in love with it or move on but I can't afford it unless I sell...

  • Re: What sewing machine do you use?

I am reading this thread because I am currently researching a variety of machines. Now that I am finally an 'empty nester' I have 'that room' I have always wanted-- and I'm ready to update my toys.... Currently I have a 17 year old Kenmore 36. It was $400 back then, when money was...

  • Quilted Papercut

I got interested on the art of Papercut and Hawaiian Quilts and I tried to use these two artistic inpirations on this wall quilt that I created. I'm using the photo of the quilt as my avatar here and I'm uploading the photo here so that it can be viewed fully.

  • mixing hand-painted fabrics with commercial prints

Hi! I used a glue-resist and hand-painted some lovely and lively pieces! Now I want to use them in an art quilt BUT they are so "dull" comparted to the commercial prints I chose. I wanted my hand-painted pieces to stand out but I think they will be lost. How do I brighten them up, or how do...

  • Re: Free-motion is jerky

Yes Barb, that is a great site, I immediately started practicing her daily exercises and boy does that help. She gives great tips and fun designs to exercise with. Thanks for passing the info to us. Myriam

  • Re: What is your favorite surface technique?

My favorite technique is thread. I find the colors so varied and the thicknesses create different effects. I never feel one of my pieces has come alive until I have changed the textures with thread. Most often I build the piece and it seems flat, like painting a canvas. But then, I get out my palette...

  • Marking for Free Motion

I normally just go for it with free motion, so I have no experience with marking. I have a quilt ready for quilting (lap quilt) and I think it needs a more structured quilting pattern. I have a pounce bag and have used it with stencils (ones used for painting) I'll be glad to get your advise. Thanks...
