“This piece was created in a different manner in that the fabric was screen printed first, then tinted with fluid acrylics from Golden Artist Colors®, stamped, painted, and splattered with white acrylic paint. It was then quilted and bound. The tulips were painted with fabric paint so the lettering would show through. The background behind the flowers was splattered (using an old toothbrush) with a mix of orange and yellow acrylic paint to create a halo effect.”
Ana Buzzalino shares her method for stitching and painting quilt surfaces in her article “Quilted & Painted Canvases,” in the December 2010/January 2011 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine. Here is another example of her work.
