It is an entry for Quilting Arts Reader Challenge "Text Me" and is based on my love of different styles of fonts. Even when I don't know the language, I love the shape of letters. Some are tentative and some are bold, but they all convey meaning just by the very nature of the shapes of the symbols.

"Mapping" for me means using visual metaphors as a way to describe a complex concept or organization. For 30+ years as a visual practitioner in the field of graphic facilitation, I have created these maps wall-size, using poster bond, felt pens and chalk pastel.

"The Harvest" uses a tree as a "natural system" to identify the key elements of art quilting. The embellished buttons are the harvest of art quilts, making their way to shows and guilds, our loved ones and (hopefully) collectors!

"While taking a red-eye flight back from the West Coast, I happened to look out the window somewhere over the Midwest. There, all of the landscape is laid out in grids, and at 30,000 feet, on a clear night, all that marks one town from the next are the streets lined by gold mercury vapor lights and blue tungsten lights. At night, the sight is magical as the scene stretches for miles as one small town after another rolls by. I would have never attempted this on a large scale quilt, as there would have been just too many buttons or beads, but on a 10" x 12" ( 25.25 cm x 30.5 cm) this small art quilt is the perfect size for what I wanted to record."

"Happy Cuppa Jo"

This is a representation of how I feel in the morning while drinking my coffee from my favorite cup. I love looking out my window and watching the birds as they flutter through my flowers and fruit trees in my back yard. The coffee cup is my design and I made it with free motion embroidery using a very small stitch to give the cup a ceramic look. The steam is some cotton fibers I pulled from some old jeans. And, of course, had to add some bling. It is 8 x 10 and the perfect size to set my old fashion perculator coffee pot on that was given to me by my mother-in-law.

"Caserta Place" aerial view map!

I designed this quilt of our street from Google Earth snaps. Our house is the one with the star on it. The details are quite accurate even down to the houses with pools, colors of roofs and the driveways are on the correct side.

heart of hearts
