Sea Dragon

This art quilt was made for my partner who loves all things ancient and oriental. The quilt is pieced in curved sections then appliqued sea dragon design was developed from a real sea dragon we found washed up on the beach near our home. To give it life sections were then fabric foiled with gold. It was then free motion quilted with 24 individual Japanese Mons in the background.

I created this beautiful batik fabric using procion dyes and soy wax. Can you guess what object I dipped in the soy wax to create the starburst/flower print? Teeehehehehehe :-) It's my secret for now!

Birches By the Beach

This 12 x 12 quilt was designed for a challenge. We are to make one 12 x 12 per month. The inspiration for January 2012 was the letters A and/or B. I adore birch trees, for me the best of both worlds would be to see birches by the beach. This is a wholecloth painting using Inktense colors by Derwent.
