art quilter Ana Buzzalino to explore two distinct approaches to
creating painted and stitched quilts. One method is to first create a
quilted canvas (“quilt first, then paint”); the second method is to
paint a wholecloth design first, and then quilt. Ana teaches her
painting technique (used for both approaches), discussing the tools and
materials, as well as background painting, detail work, and blending
techniques. By using a consistent painted motif throughout, Ana
illustrates the diverse results one can achieve. She also demonstrates
ways to machine quilt a painted piece, including different filler
motifs, and she shares hand embroidery stitches. You’ll be inspired to
create your own painted, quilted, and embroidered pieces.

Digital Collage for Quilt Design: From Start to Finish with Diane Rusin Doran

Learn
