This quilt is a visual interpretation of a philosophical concept. "Checks and Balances" is a term most of us first heard in our high school civics classes, an idea to which we aspire in government and in the world around us, and often fall short. Perhaps the best way to achieve balance is to look within or possibly create it in our art.

First off I came up with the design for a Challenge from my quilting guild (Pecos Valley Quilters, Roswell, NM) with the theme Holiday/Season and it also works for the Forum Challenge - It's My Nature here :)

It also was a challenge in that I did a lot of Free-Motion quilting on it, at least 80%. I still have a long way to go for the technique, but it did help me a lot.

The Cross it self it made of a piece of light-weight silk that I painted with shaving cream marbling. The rest of the fabrics are commercial fabrics. I thread painted the grasses around the Font.

I was fortunate enough to win another 1st and a judge's choice with two other quilts. This piece was rawedge fabric collage and then threadpainted freemotion style.
