Wow, I am wrapped with how this turned out. Lots of different mediums used for this project. I actually dyed some of the cloths I worked with, I sparyed Glimmer Mist all over them, OMG I am in love with how the colours turns out... amazing!

Printed out my designs on canvas, glimmer misted, stamped, stitched, then bound everything together with sitches.

Nautical Dreams

I just finished yet another purse this time with a nautical theme. I will be posting two more closeup photos showing the embellishments and the beautiful silver frame. Again I worked with men's neck ties and was thrilled to find the center one with the little painted fisherman on it, perfect for my purse! It's also completely lined with navy blue satin and the back fabric is a burgundy brocade. Oh boy, now I can start on another purse!

Please enjoy the closeup of the ribbon work on my wedding purse. I am self taught and I did not work from a pattern or a kit. I am blessed with the images of what I want to do on a piece and I can usually replicate what is in my mind's eye to my project.

Silk Sari Ribbon Journal

This is a mixed-media art journal cover that I created using Silk Sari Ribbon. I quilted it onto black cotton muslin in vertical strips, then to add more texture and color variation I layered the ribbons, alternating smaller and wider widths. The block letters below which, of course, read "JOURNAL" are created using stamped canvas which is overdyed with diluted liquid acrylic paints, fabric art markers, and free-motion stitching. I created a looped fringe with the ribbon for the bound edge of the journal for more tactile interaction with the journal, and finished off the "Ribbon Quilt" with a sprinkling of hand-sewn beads.

I took the photos while in Cleveland to visit the "Vatican" display they had up at the circle and we stopped to see the gardens also. I printed the images to fabric I prepared my self with Jet Set and printed on my Epson Stylus Photo R320. After giving them a rinse in Jet Set Rinse and letting them dry I worked on choosing fabric from my stash that would bring out the colors. I desided on the fabric and then figured out just how to set the pictures. After the top was completed I emblished with beads and then quilted with some of my decorative stitches and thread painted with some of the wonderful varagated threads and used a water soluable stablizer under the thread painting. I hope you all enjoy one of my attempts at an art quilt. Nancy

here is one page in my thread journal book... all pages were painted, then i glued threads down throughout... sometimes randomly, sometimes with a specific shape, like this flower -- and words of course! ;)
