This was originally created for the "StitchThis" contest to win a Bernia Sewing Machine. I came in third. Even though I didn't win the machine, I appreciated this quilt as it reminded me of how grateful I am every moment to be a mother. While making this, my son was recovering from a shattered hip after falling while rock climbing 850 ft. up in Yosemite. It took over 6 hours of dangling on the cliff for rescue. Needless to say, I am thankful to the rescue climbers and I AM COUNTING MY BLESSINGS! ! ! ! !

Just love this new technique I created. It's hand painted, quilted, adhered to a board and burned. I've made two so far. One was accepted as "Fine Art" and set to be auctioned off at a fundraising event.

What Duck am I?

I took a photo of this duck at the Hawaiian Hilton 2011 . I fell in love with the reflection in the water. I did not know the name of the duck until yesterday when a fellow quilter did some research and told me it was a Ring Neck Teal from South America. I thought I would still keep the original title for the quilt even tho I now know the type of duck. It is raw edged fused with very little fabric paint for highlights on water and spots on duck.

Park City Barn

I took a picture of a Park City Barn in Utah. You can see paintings and photos of this barn in all the art gallery's in Park City. I though I would do my version as a quilt. I added the fence in front for more interest and the raven is a photo printed on cotton and thread painted for more accent . I used some fabric paint for shadows. It is raw edged fused and quilted.

Ask The Cowboys at the Bucket of Blood saloon

I took a photo of may Brother-in-law talking to the cowboys at the Bucket Of Blood Saloon in Virginia City Nevada. When I printed the photo for him I decided it must be a quilt. I designed the pattern from my photo. I used a lot of my hand dyed material for the raw edge piecing. I painted the bottles on the bar with fabric paint and used photo transfer for the labels. The reflection in the mirror is from the original photo printed on cotton. In the border I printed some of my photos of the town on organza for a ghostly effect.

Coleus Up Close

I was inspired by the different colors and textures in the coleus leaves to experiement with different fabrics. The leaves are each made individually - stitched and turned - and then I fused additional fabric on some before thread sketching the veins by machine. I stitched each leaf to the background, scrunching them up a little to give them realistic shapes. This piece measures 29" x 23" and was a lot of fun to make! Fabrics include cottons, batiks, velvet, taffeta, suede cloth, and satin. The salvia is hand stitched yarn.

This little silhouette was made in remembrance of my beloved cat, Serge. For seventeen years he was my faithful quiting companion, purring his approval of fabric and thread selection and always certifiying that every piece of quilt batting was the right loft for the project. He even learned how to sing and dance (in cat fashion and for treats of course.) He was the only one of my felines who hugged you back. I still miss him.

Baby Bubbles Modern Baby quilt

I designed this baby quilt for my friend's latest grand baby. Mom to be wanted something modern in the colours of the nursery. I developed a recent fondness for circles so decided to applique floating bubbles on this quilt. Machine and hand quilting with machine applique.
