My inner animal is an elephant. This was my inner animal even before I became a (ahem) mature female. My inner animal embodies many qualities I strive for such as patience, strength, wisdom, loyalty, playfulness, protectiveness of the herd (especially its female and child members) and loyalty. I love than elephants attend the bones of their dead. I love that elephant females protect one another. I am incredibly saddened by the fact that they are vanishing.
My quilt is, like my animal, rugged. The fabric is a pair of my husbands old jeans. At least I hope that is the case. That might have been the pair he was waiting for me to sew a button on. I screen printed the background with what looked to me like an Indian or African motif. I got the image from a royalty free stock photo source that granted permission for artistic use as long as it was not pornographic. I manipulated the image and added the qualities I have described. I used free-motion quilting to highlight the lovely age lines.
