Frida Kahlo's Blue House

The background was a piece of green and blue batik. The blue was the exact color of Kahlo's house. I painted a picture then scanned it onto muslin. Slip stiched into place on the base quilt and then cut out tropical leaves, also scanned after painting. I used my sewing machine to embroider the leaves before appliqueing them to the quilt.Then I made the clothes (my favorite part) using beads and hand made ribbon roses for her hair. I used hand blanket stitch for the poppies, this is a liberty of London fabric I cut out the red flowers and attached them .The lamp on the wall is hand painted then sewn in black thread.
