Mouth Watering Peaches

This was a commission to honor one of our local Japanese peach farmers here in the San Joaquin Valley where I live.  Although most people only know Califonia (San Francisco/Los Angeles)because ot the TV Shows the San Joaquin Valley is the heart of California.  Here in the Valley we grow walnuts, almonds, rice, corn, tomatoes, peaches, oranges, apricots, grapes etc.... Your can tomatoes probably came from here...

The peaches in this quilt started out as a very light peachy yellow fabric.  I kept mixing paints and painting until the peachs looked good enough to eat.  The leaves were made from fabric I dyed with rit dye (the poor man's dye) and painted.  Everything was then machined appliqued w/buttonhole stitching to a black background that I had prequilted.  I didn't do a whole lot of quilting because I did not want to distract from the peaches.
