Project 312-1

To make on canvas book, begin with a piece of canvas duck about 10” X 12”.  Prime it on both sides with a coat or two of white acrylic paint.  Inexpensive is fine.  After both sides are primed and dried, paint with any other color of acrylic paint you wish.  The color of the canvas can help the theme of your book along.  For instance, I made a yellow book for an Emily Dickinson poem about that color.

When the canvas is dry, use a ruler, cutting mat and craft knife to cut out an 8 1/2” x 11” rectangle.  Fold in half lengthwise and crease with a bone folder if you have one.  Open.  Fold in half widthwise and crease.  Open.  Fold the ends to the center and crease.  Open.  Refold on the center widthwise crease.  Starting on the fold, cut on the crease to the intersection of the other crease.  Open.  Fold in half lengthwise on the crease and push the ends to the center.  Fuss with the pages until everything looks even, smooth and pretty.  Fill your book with paper, fabric, text or photos.  The book can be opened completely flat for sewing machine access to the pages.
