Ellie: "This is an attempt to explore fabric painting. It
is a combination of mixing reds and blues using a cosmetic sponge and stencils
on silk organza. I saw it as a background with possibilities of an Asian theme.
I cut the tree pattern thinking I would make an appliqué separately then attach
it and tie the whole piece together with machine stitching. Then I stopped. My
dilemma was the quilting. What should it be?"
Mistianne: "When I received the UFO my first thought was how purple it was. The
second thing I noticed was a paper cutout that looked like a tree. I was not
quite sure what this UFO was supposed to be so I resolved the issue by tossing
the paper tree and gathering some of my supplies and looked at the two squares
of fabric with creative eyes. I decided the sheer looked great against the
purple but needed a little sparkle. I decide to put Angelina fibers between the
two layers to add sparkle and also some fun yarn as a border. Weaving the
fabric gave it movement and the embroidery with the variegated thread gave it
some shine."
