This quilt was inspired from the 12th century stain glass window in the Chartres Cathedral. I am trying to capture the  beautiful art of the window through applique and embroidery. I digitized the images from  photos.  The squares are appliqued and embroidered in a machine embroidery hoop and quilted on a sewing machine. When finished there will be 24 squares in total.

Fabulous work!  I am an admirer of stain glass and early sacred art and have tried to do similar subject matter in fabric.  It's a daunting task, but well worth the effort.  I'm glad to find someone else who also appreciates the marvels of early sacred art.

Thank you. I feel that stain glass lends itself beautifully to applique and embroidery. I have tried other methods but this on seems to be most gratifing
