I created the background for this piece using the surface design technique described in the Feb/March 2012 issue of Quilting Arts. I started with a white cotton fabric, then layered on newspaper, paper napkins, gesso, cheesecloth, acrylic paint and oil sticks. The kitty is cut free-form, fused and outline stitched. The whole thing measures 12"x12".
