This quilt was inspired by Michael Angelo's "La Pieta" and Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu".
The ink sketch of the sculpture is from a photograph of the sculpture printed on fabric. Free machine quilted and embellished with seed beads, metal findings, glass beads, yarn, hand-knit heart, commercially printed fabric, and hand-written calligraphy on *"Papel Amate" from Mexico. The words "Have mercy on us" are in English, Spanish, and Italian.
*Papel Amate is Mexican bark paper, hand-crafted for centuries and still made today.
