This applique quilt portrait is designed from the owner's favorite photograph.  I used fusible thread to attach the fabric pieces together and satin-stitched the edges once I was satisfied with the look of the face.  This averts the stiffness of fusing covering the back of the fabric piece and allows a tiny bit of lift in the fabric that I like in the quilted result. I used black tulle to tone down some of the fabrics to give a better sense of the color and also add perspective. I used monofilament thread to quilt the faces. Both dogs presented huge challenges in locating fabrics that accurately reflected their coats' color and texture.  The darker dog is black with strong brown highlights and the brindle came alive with a strange black/brown/rust batik I tried out of desperation. This quilt is 22" long and 29" wide.

Absolutely fabulous fabric pet portrait!  On my list of projects (in memory of my Rupert & Emma).  Well done!  ~ Georgia Andrews

This is fantastic - the pieces are impeccably chosen and  placed.  Very unique approach.

This is a fantastic  piece! You really caught the expression perfectly on both dogs. I have two dogs so I think I know what these expressions are saying due to the fact that they are so realistic. Oh and the fabric choices are perfect. Thanks for showing these.
